This beer pours a glowing amber orange color with slow rising carbonation bubbles. The aroma is wonderfully full of hops. Grapefruit and pine hit the nose and make you realise that this beer will be a hop lovers dream. The first taste doesn’t loose a step from the aroma. It is very well balanced. It is very bitter and hoppy but there is just a tiny bit of malt sweetness in the background to not let the hops dominate the beer. The bitterness lingers and tanuts the toung making you want another sip as soon as possible. One of my favorite beers ever. -An added rating- Spring 2005- Amazing malt sweetness both in its presence and brevity at the front of the mouth. The sweetness is quickly taken over by glorious hops throughout the mouth. Combos of pine and pure grapefruit along with a thick tannin feel. The finish has a quick hit of alcohol and an amazingly clean finish. Definately the best beer I’ve ever had in my mouth. I’m increasing the rating as I think the flavor is the best I’ve had.

What a good beer!!! Pours a burnt orange/amber color. Nice head and a smoothe drink. Lot of alchohol so drinking a couple will make you forget the $8 price tag. Well worth it though

FINALLY!! I’ve been on a quest for this beer not unlike that of King Arthur and Not So Brave Sir Robin’s quest for the Grail. After almost 2 years of futility, I found one lone bottle at the Foodery in Philly. On with the review: Mildly hazy burnt orange pour supporting a tall and rocky off-white head with a great deal of lacing. The citrus in the aroma practically muscled its way through the bottle before I could open it! Plenty of tangerine and grapefruit in the aroma along with a more than healthy degree of fresh hops and cut grass. Unlike some other Impy IPAs who’s flavors disappoint after big fruity aromas, this one met the challange head on. Wonderfully fruity with more grapefruit, lightly toasted malt, huge hops and a hint of alcohol - though well cloaked. Mouthfeel is full and creamy and the finish is sweet, bitter, long but still dry. My expectations for this beer were probably too high but it turned out that they may not have been high enough. This beer is outstandingly well balanced, flavorful and expertly crafted. Stone Ruination has met its match!

22 oz. bomber. A hazy copper/orange pour with a thick and creamy light-tan head that leaves some streaked webbing down the side of my tulip glass. The mouth-watering aroma is just SO thick and pungent. It’s like a freshly sliced grapefruit amid a bed of pine needles. Full, sticky and resiny body. The perfect level of carbonation. BIG on the fresh hops and enough sweet, caramelly malts to keep it from being too one-sided. Tangy grapefruits and orange peels are in abundance throughout. A smooth, malty middle and a piney, sticky, bitter finish that coats the tongue and lingers. This beer manages to be both tingly and smooth at the same time. The alcohol isn’t too noticeable while drinking, but it hit me like a brick after I finished the bottle. Just a damn good beer. One of my favorites so far.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with GregClow, my bottle via trade with Mullman. *My 900th rating* Let me start by saying this is by far the BEST IPA I’ve ever had. Poured slightly hazy orange with an average off-white head. Aroma is a juicy hop medley, orange/lemon/pineapple - resiny but not overpowering - solid sweet lightly roast malt - incredibly balanced and blended. Taste is just what the nose promised - juicy, subtle, balanced - there’s a hint of spruce resin and the malt follows it all the way. This has a long, smooth finish, it ends slightly bitter, but it just gets smoother the more you drink it. This satisfied my palate in so many ways - just drink it, enjoy it and appreciate the balance and smoothness: incredible, it’s hoppy but it just doesn’t *seem* particularly hoppy - quite an accomplishment.

This beer came out of the Midwest?! Tastes like NW hops. Very valuable beer for Indianians. After several bomby beauties, I was pleased to try this hazy orange colored brew. Bottle conditioned and worthy to stand beside any West Coast beer. This beer has been rated 100 on this site for a while, and rightfully so! Boo yah! If you like this , you owe it to yourself to try Moylan’s Hopsickle, Mad River Double IPA, or the uber-awesome Fish Tail Ten Squared

Incredible... usually dobles are way to oily and resiny for me, light bitting into hop pellets and with no complexities. This one definatly deserves its top place of its style. Beautiful aroma of flowery hops, dried fruits and malts. Flavor is semisweet and verry hoppy but with a large amount of malts balancing it out, some lemon and oranges and a hint of dried apples. The pallat is smooth as silk and finishes crisp and refreshing with a nice bitterness and sweetnes lingering for ages. Thanks to Drewbeerme for the trade.

My 50th beer rating. Color was a nice cloudy orange, aroma was hoppy citrusy, and slightly sweet. Unfortunately I tried this beer a little too cold, and at first it didn’t seem much like a double ipa to me. When, cold, the hops dominate, with citrus up front, subsiding to a piney dry aftertaste. Still, it is remarkably well balanced, and smooth. Again, it did not seem much like a double ipa, because it was lacking a strong malt sweetness to it. Then I let it warm up. This beer probably had the biggest change of any I’ve had when it came to temperature. After it had warmed, the hops seemed to intermingle with a nice warm sweetness from the malts. It became more balanced. The flavor became much sweeter and a mango-hop flavor appeared. Overall: a nicely balanced iipa, with wonderfull complexity that appears as it warms. I don’t if I’d pay $12 for it, and travel out of state, but it was certainly one of the most enjoyable beers I’ve ever had.
