Adam was good enough to trade me three different FFF styles for some quality PA and NY beers, and FFF has eclipsed Stone as my current favorite brewer.
I drank this one out of a Corsendonk tulip glass. It pours a turbid pumpkin pie colored (I verified, from the label, that this is bottle conditioned), with a reverse "Guinness cascade" going on...super heady, carbonation moving from bottom to top. Great lace. It's funny...I just described seeing the Taj Mahal in the lace of a previous beer, and this one has a drawing of the Taj Mahal on the label!
Aroma of HUGE pineapple, grapefruit, hops, pears, applesauce, and honeydew melon.
Tastes extremely hoppy, with hints of all the above mentioned fruits, citrus, and chardonnay.
Finishes very hoppy, fruity, citrusy, crisp, smooth, with extremely well hidden alcohol (I estimated 6-7...this doesn't taste like 9.5).
Amazingly complex...each swallow brings slightly new aromas and flavors.
As it warmed, I noticed even more complex aromas and flavors.
I gave the Stoudt's IPA a 5.0, and this one is just as deserving, for slightly different reasons. This one is hoppier, but somewhat less complex than the Stoudt's IPA, in my opinion. This one surpasses the Dogfish 90 minute IPA. I see no deductions in this one, and I want to thank atpayne again for this exceptional beer. Three Floyds beers will bend you over the table, shove complexity and hops up your ass, and make you cry mercy. Fucking OUTSTANDING!!!

THE imperial ipa. RugbyMike (14), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA

It has a bit of the citrus going for it with a geat, tawny color. This is the best beer I’ve ever had... for now Quetzalcoatl (153), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

I don’t know where to start, the grapefruit aroma that makes the mouth water, or the beautiful white head and the lace it leaves. The body is just rich enough to allow the malt to come through and balance the intense hop character, without being overwhelming. Perfection in a bottle. Spliffy (55), Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, USA

I have had most of the top and I will have to say that only one or two Imperial’s come within’ a five mile radius of this immaculate liquid! The flavor, aroma, mouthfeel, apperance etc.....bleed of HOPS and PERFECTION!!!! I celebrate with the Dread rather then champagne! SayNoToCoors (65), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA

| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | May 9, 2006 This is my first FFF beer ever. What can I say, I have been missing out. I thought the hype behind this beer was embedded in the scarcity. I was wrong. This bottle was three years old and brought to me by a buddy who shone me da light. A deep orange hue with lovely carbonation. An austere and firm off-white heads forms and follows the beer down to the bottom. The nose is as interesting as any I’d ever had. Candy dish, and marzipan (blood orange perhaps). The nose is ripe with fresh hoppiness, amazing for the age of the bottle. Grapefruits, mashmellows, and coniferous hop aromas overshadow the age of this beer. On the palate, rich malt sweetness intertwines in a seamlessly constructed palate of wise malt fruit bosltered by a sprucy and citrusy hop spice to finish. Very floral, I can’t imagine this beer upon it’s release. The Abv.% is completley masked, the flavor saps ever bit of strength the 9.5% has to offer. It’s tough to say, but maybe the best DIPA I’ve had. Maybe I need some more bottles to determine for sure... bushwik (11), chicago, Illinois, USA

The alcohol is almost none existent in this one. Who says a dIPA has to burn your mouth? What are you people talking about? A GOOD ONE SHOULD BE SUBTLE WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF HOPS LIKE THIS GUY... I am stocking up on this stuff . Too expensive though for most.
