Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

More like a barley wine than an IPA. Ultra sweet and malty, touch of alchohol flavor, and one of the most amazing hop profiles to be found among beers--pleasant level of bitterness, hints of lemony or grapefruit citrus, and a sublime floral bouquet not unlike a violet candy.

Fruity hops and a very sweet malty taste make this almost like a Barley Wine, IMO. The alcohol is extremely well hidden in the complexity. Have a few pints, you’ll know what I mean.

Okay, how excited was I at having the opportunity to try this legendary beer? Man, what a damn good beer. I am so sucker punched by these beers that provide such good flavor within their category but also so much beyond it as well. This IPA is surely hopped adequately and bitter enough, but they take a back seat as the wonderful creamy/rummy/chewy flavor and mouthfeel present themselves. A bit fruity (I mean beyond the typical IPA citrus) and slightly nutty - like hazelnut or butternut. A big, complex IPA that really sets the bar a bit higher.

bottled, courtesy of footbalm. glowing copper orange, with more malt in the aroma than i expected. however, a biting bitterness hits your tongue before anything else, and the radioactive color becomes a radioactive flavor--my tongue is glowing, coated with hops. this is clearly alpha king’s bigger, badder, bitterer brother. damn good beer.

Big pine and citrus aroma. Lots of tangy grapefruit, pine and floral flavors. Slightly sweet, candy and alcohol finish. Still manages to be refreshing for such a big beer, not overwhelming. I was expecting a lot and I got it!

Bomber. Picked this up at the Three Floyds Brewpub. Pours an orange/copper color. Looks very clear to me. Thin off-white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is a beautiful mixture of sweet tangerine, floral hops, and grapefruit. This has to be experienced firsthand. Flavor is orange citrus and fruits, with massive hops in the finish, so strong it actually lingers as I type this, just as it did immediately after the taste. I actually got chills drinking this fine brew.

Rating #100! I saved a good one for this. 22 oz. bomber. Wow, this is good. Slightly cloudy light orange body with a small white head. Wonderful aroma of hops, orange, grapefruit, lemon, and lime. Flavor is bold and complex. I tasted lots of different hop flavors and lots of different citrus. Very hoppy, but not bitter or alchoholic. Refreshing, clean finish. Easily the best IPA I’ve had.

COMMENTS: beautiful bitterness. the best IIPA I’ve tried so far. This is a wonderful nectar. the only slam I’ve seen against this beer is that it’s not deep; it’s just in your face. Well, duh, it’s an Imperial...you have to respect anyone who can brew a beer this big and still have consuming it be a plesant experience...
