| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 24, 2003 Ah, is there any better aroma than that of a “Truly Magnificent Beer”? In my humble opinion, “NO”! Dreadnaught is a beer I’ve looked forward to sampling, since I read the first review.
Also one other thing I’ve noticed, on this site and others, either you love it or you dislike it intensely.
The color an unclouded copper, the head Bunyanesque in stature, spumescent in texture, the color a lovesome light tan. “Ah that smell”, the freshness of a Pine forest after a spring rain combined with the heady aroma of fresh picked hop flowers, the delightful sweet malt underpinnings, citrus crisp and fresh, a treat for the olfactory senses, hell a treat for the eyes also. Start is sweet to the point of distraction, the malt thick and chewy, the top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish pleasantly acidic, the hops ferine in their bite, bittersweet, purposeful and a very dry aftertaste, with the hops sticking to your taste buds for days, and one fine quaffing beer, my vote, I love it!
As a point of interest this is certainly not a beer for the weak of palate, or those not into hops or high ABV, so my advise, leave it alone as the rest of us “Hop Heads”, will certainly appreciate it.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 4, 2003 Updated: Aug 13, 2003Update: I am so damned happy this got distributed in fair Maryland. I love balanced beers--slightly hoppy Dortmunder, a dry Pils, an aromatic, fruity Weizen--this one is not balanced, but is absolutely wonderful. Not terribly bitter, it must be noted. Tends a bit toward barleywine as it warms.
Old: I couldn't stop laughing when we opened and poured this hop monster: it was so far over the top. The flavor was astonishing. The alpha and omega of Super-IPA. Sticky, citric, lightly herbal and sweet. My favorite sippin' IPA. Many thanks, LiebeBier. BtownBrewer (91), Belchertown, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 6, 2003 Traded a bottle of my homemade Blackberry Mead to Volgon (Thank You!)for a bottle of this, that I shared with ericnixon and my wife. The amber color was just this side of orange. Tiny effrevenscent bubbles rise slowly from the bottom of the glass. An unbelievable piney aroma that made me want to mop my kithen floor. I can imagine a 2 story tall Juiceman Juicer at the brewery: Hops go in the top, Dreadnaught comes out the bottom. I had to give less than perfect scores for Flavor, Palate and Overall Impression because IPA's in general are not my favorite beers, but I can't help but marvel at what had to go into making this one. Nose full of sweet malt and citrusy hops. Super full bodied. Like fermented hop oil. Sticky and rich. Loads carmel maltiness surrounded by resiny, oily, bitter hops. Long finish. Never overwhelming, but bordering right on the fine line. rdog (10), Hammond, Indiana, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 2, 2006 Pours orange/yellow with fluffy abundant head. Hop aromas bubbling up to your nose from 3 feet away. Immediate hops explosion up front, slightly syrupy, woody, and citrus midway through with a carmel maltiness in the finish to balance it out. A hopheads dream brew. verymerrymonk (257), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 17, 2004 The pour leaves a cloudy, deep orange body, topped by a small white head with great lacing. Aroma of piney hops and citrus fruits. Taste is of grapefuits and oranges, intense, fresh hops, and a sweet maltiness that balances out the flavor. Mouth is big and thick and the finish is long, slow, and dry. I had waited for this one for a while and it lived up to every expectation that I could have had. Awesome. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2005 BAM finally get to try this bad boy, and it was worth the wait. First of all I’ll thank BUNKYPOP for sending me this all the way from Illinois! Pours a dark gold body, with some cloudy orange properties. Head is just off-white, short lived and medium sized. In the end the head just sorta sat around the edge of the glass. Aromas are a huge blast of hops, citrus (lemon and orange), sweet malty candies, and some grassy notes too. Complex! Taste is like a hops train coming straight for your mouth, and it explodes in your mouth. HUGE HOPS, bitterness, orange peel, candied malts, grainy and grassy, and a slight boozey warmth. Finish is boozey and warming, huge bite in the mouth. Long lasting hoppy aftertaste. Suprisingly smooth and enjoyable for the alcohol content. Awesome and prime example of the style. Well done Three Floyds!
