Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Absolutely brilliant. What a wonderful IIPA. A hint of sweetness and a whopping load of hops. Full of booze and wonderfulness.

Thanks DrBayern (Much mahalo Matt!!!) Pours extremely hazy, medium to dark medium copper, formed little to no foamy head. Aroma strong of hop and pine resins. People, we’ve entered the Holy of Holies! Grapefruit and hops prevail, here we go!! Flavour is full bodied, grapefruit, wet forrest hops and pine resins. This beer is truly a gift from God, I would love to try this wonderful ale on tap and/or cask. Three Floyds has done it, beer at its finest!!

Pours a cloudy orange color with small, quickly diminishing white head. Aroma of floral and piney hops, a brown-sugary malt note, peaches, and other citrus. Initial taste is a blast of sweet, hoppy goodness. Smooooooth!! As it opened up a little more I could pick up on a rock candy quality which still retained that big hop kick. What I ultimately like about this is the hops don’t overpower the other flavors bounding about in it, they do their business, put the money on the table and jet, leaving an indelible mark on my tongue. This is a very fine IIPA, probably my favorite of the IIPA’s. 8, 4, 10, 5, 19. Draft re-rate: Dark orange in color with a nice white head. Nose is big on the grapefruit with some other citrus and a subtle pine note...pure hop juice. Flavor is so ridiculously good on this...citrus bomb with a lean towards the grapefruit end of the spectrum. Biting finish of grapefruit and a bit of pine. Great beer. Rating reflects re-rate.

i took a special trip to indiana just to have this beer. i had been reading about it for quite a while and just felt like i needed to have it in my life. this is a PERFECT beer. i was told by my traveling partners that i even had a whole new look of joy on my face when i tried it. a case of 12 bombers set me back 100 bucks even but it is worth every cent.

Wonderful. Cloudy amber pour with a small white head. Aroma of piney hops and some citrus. Complex mouthfeel with bitter finish that keeps on giving. A Hop lovers dream.

In the world of Imperial IPAs, there’s simply nothing better. This is one amazing beer as is every Three Floyds that I’ve had the opportunity to try. Pours incredibly hazy orange, not much in the way of a head but no matter.... Good grief, I smelt this thing 3 seconds after cracking open the top. Super, super citrusy hop aromas with a huge pineapple or peach influence. Man, this is right up this hop lover’s alley. Mmmmm.... Everything I hoped it would be. This is just over the top hoppiness all the way here. 100 % juicy citrus hops here and I love it. You know what you’re getting when you crack this open and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. All other IIPAs bow to this one as king. Unfortunately, I have to drive 4 hours to get my hands on this. I have 5 bombers of this left and wish now that I had gone ahead and bought a case. God, these guys know how to make beer. They’re over the top, in your face brews and that’s just the way we like it.

rating #100! *updated with a fresh bomber from DLD ’09* bomber from Archer liquors. pours a perfectly clean copper/orange with a very thin, bubbly white head that clings to the glass around the edges. aroma jumps out of the bottle with huge fruit forward, floral, and spicy hops. scents of grapefruit and apricot come across first with tropical notes of mango and pineapple adding sweetness to the nose. as it warmed i picked up some very clean piney and grassy notes with a touch of alcohol and toasty malt. the flavor of this brew is what sets if apart from other DIPAs. simply a magnificent balance of huge, citrusy and spicy hops up front countered by sweet malt on the back end. i picked up flavors of white grapefruit, pear, orange peel, and fresh pine. as the beer warmed, the hop bite was calmed by the sweet malts that were almost ginger snap in flavor. finish was initially spicy, citrus hops that left a huge, lingering bitterness. mouthfeel is juicy, medium bodied and oily on the tongue with perfect carbonation and just a touch of booze. truly the epitome of a big, perfectly balanced DIPA and truly perfect when fresh.

I love this beer. It tastes and smells almost as good as a 21 year old freshly shaven virgin after a shower. Outstanding stuff!
