Dark amber colour. Rich aroma, smooth and malty. Hops are gone of course. Slight madeira here, and almond paste. Good fruity also in aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, with a thick, burning fieriness(?!?!?!) and a great deal of bitterness still, almost salty with exotic fruits. Bit sweet plus orange-like,with peppery bitterness. Overly thick. No backup from flavouring hops. Gotta try this fresh one day.
rkuhnel (1064), Eureka, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 While in Munster,at the Three Floyds Brewpub, I was served a half pint of this amazing beer in a tulip glass. It was a beautiful gold to orange color. The bartender poured it with a one inch head and it left rich lacing rings. Seemed to be at about 55 degrees. Nose was amazing, with citrus hops and some ripe fruit, backed up by some tantalizing odors of pine and other things I honestly cannot identify. Suffice it to say is smells heavenly. Mouthfeel is really smooth and slick. Flavor is a very well balanced mixture of malts and hops. Finish is bitter but not overly so. A truly amazing beer. I brought home a bottle so I can share this with another beer lover. durhambeer (379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 20, 2008 Thanks to emacgee for the shared bottle. Golden orange pour. Citrus and mango on the nose, but also surprisingly malty and astringent. Not JUST a hop bomb! Very well balanced, more than any other IPA I’ve had. Good mouthfeel, and crisp finish. Really enjoyed this. emacgee (1010), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 Pours an amber gold with a one finger yellow head. The nose was earthy, malty, sweet, caramel, much more malt than expected, some citrusy hops but the nose overall was quite subdued. The flavor was similar, much more of a balanced IIPA than I was expecting. Some grapefruit peel, earthy, sweet caramel malt, some bitterness, alcohol doesn’t really show up. The palate was sweet and full with a nice hop bitterness to it. Overall just not as big and juicy as what I was hoping for. Snojerk321 (943), San Diego, California, USA Aug 16, 2008 22oz bottle via trade. Pours a lightly hazed golden orange with a big n’ fluffy white head with amazing lacing. Tons of fresh tree fruit and pine in the nose. I was not very impressed at first, with every sip the beer kept getting better. Didn’t quite live up to the hype for me, still a great IIPA. PolakPorter (50), , Illinois, USA Aug 14, 2008 Deliciousness and delicocity combined. Best IPA I’ve had to date. So good I want to do dirty things to it. Aroma is oh so fruity and the taste clings to the tastebuds for days. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....love this beer. Just wish I could afford more of it
