Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Pours a deep amber color with a big head that sticks around for a while. The aroma is huge hops (sweet citrus). Hops hit big up front on the taste, but the caramel malts follow it up to balance it nicely. Mouthfeel is thick, but smooth. Just an incredible beer.

Rating #900. Bottle from a trade with StFun. Pours orangish color with off white head. Strong citrus aroma of grapefruit and oranges and some sugary sweetness. Nice amount of hop bitterness without overdoing it. Lots of citrus and some pine balanced with a touch of sweet caramel maltiness, no too sugary or syrupy. Medium body with average carbonation and a resinous mouthfeel. Excellent!

22 oz. bottle from City Wide in South Bend, picked up by shawnm213. Thanks, Shawn! Pours cloudy orange amber with an inch thick off-white head that leaves beautiful lacing behind. Aroma of sweet caramel malts, pine hops, orange citrus, tea, mango, apricot, and yeast. Flavor of caramel malts, floral hops, orange and grapefruit citrus, mango, peach, apricot, pine, tea, and just a little warming alcohol. For 9.5%, it’s well-hidden. Medium bodied, sticky, complex, and well-balanced. Feels awesome in the mouth- sweet from the caramel malts and mixed fruits, bitter from the hops, malty, and a bit bready. Perfect aftertaste of fruit, hops, and malt. This is fantastic.

pours a bit hazy with a decent 1 finger head on top. aroma is really nice with lots of malt and citrus. taste is nice, however i found vanilla to dominate a bit, but still a nice balance. would like a bit more hoppyness to this one, but hey, i like my IPA’s super hoppy...overall a fantastic brew.

Gift from Joe for watching his mutt. Nice hop aroma, notes of caramel. Amber in color nice white lace around glass, lively carbonation. The malt to bitterness ratio is perfect. Light sourness, medium bitterness. Nice medium body with a hop sticky texture. If you love Alpha King you will Love this beer.

This brew is so perfectly balanced that the monster abv% and hop content somehow mesh into a simple, citrusy explosive flavor with minimal indication of those elements that so often overpower IIPAs. This is on the level with Bell’s, Founders, the best IIPAs around.

Beautiful, just a beautiful brew here! Pours orange-amber into the glass, with a decent head that leaves soapy lace. The gorgeous nose is of candied oranges, floral hops, citrus and stone fruits (pitted). Beautifully sweet caramel malts encompass a wonderfully citric acidity, with lots of rind, peel and zest thrown in the mix of fresh orange and grapefruit flesh. Thick pine accents the finish, slathering the palate with a load of hops. The mouthfeel, although full-bodied with a just a hint of residual fusel oil, is extremely drinkable, and may go down the easiest of any IIPA I’ve ever had. Plenty of complexity here to go around, and the brew utilizes every portion of the tongue to see those complexities to fruition. Simply perfection!

This is my first encounter with a Three Floyds beer and it’s pretty great. It’s a big, sweet, citrusy/floral DIPA with good hop resin bite. The beer pours a deep gold with little head but lots of lacing. The smell is thick with clementines, limes and floral hops. The flavor is similarly great. The hop flavor is very strong nearly to the point of having a solvent character. The malt is still quite sweet adding an excellent caramel character. The hops taste strongly of oranges, sweet and citric. The defining characteristic with DIPAs for me is the bitterness level and Dreadnaught is within the optimum range for me. The mouthfeel is oily and thick without being cloying.

Love this beer. On tap @ FFF’s. Pours medium-dark orange in color with a white head. Smells fruity/citrus with a good amount of hops. Right off the bat, you are hit over the head with that wonderful hoppy taste and a slight amount of citrus taste. Soooo fresh! Good mouthfeel, medium carbonation, very clean finish. This beer beats the crap out of your taste buds so 1 bomber or a couple of tulips towards the end of the night is a good idea.
