Just another ho hum unbelievable beer from Three Floyds. Perfect balance for a double IPA. The great thing about the double IPA category is that you can get so many different experiences from a single style. To appreciate the category, one should acquire a taste for better IPAs first.

Dec 22, 2009 Aroma of grapefruit, tart apple and spiced grape. Appearance is gold and transparent with plenty of carbonation; creamy head. Flavor matches the nose perfectly, with more of an emphasis on the grapefruit. Palate was lively. Pretty good.

Dec 19, 2009 22oz. into tulip. Cloudy, medium orange/gold with moderate beige head. Head diminishes to thin with yeast circles. Aroma of citrus and pine - orange.tangerine, grapefruit. Good lacing lingering. Well-balanced brew with nice dry, bitter finish but not overwhelming. Alcohol is completely hidden in my oipnion. Very, very nice offering. A kick-butt Imperial IPA!

Dec 12, 2009 Tap at FFF. Orange gold, semi-hazy pour. Bright citrus hop nose, creamy mouthfeel. Complex palate of citrus flavors with hoppiness that is borderline too much for me. Great stuff.

Dec 9, 2009 Rating #900. Bottle from a trade with StFun. Pours orangish color with off white head. Strong citrus aroma of grapefruit and oranges and some sugary sweetness. Nice amount of hop bitterness without overdoing it. Lots of citrus and some pine balanced with a touch of sweet caramel maltiness, no too sugary or syrupy. Medium body with average carbonation and a resinous mouthfeel. Excellent!

Dec 9, 2009 22 oz. bottle from City Wide in South Bend, picked up by shawnm213. Thanks, Shawn! Pours cloudy orange amber with an inch thick off-white head that leaves beautiful lacing behind. Aroma of sweet caramel malts, pine hops, orange citrus, tea, mango, apricot, and yeast. Flavor of caramel malts, floral hops, orange and grapefruit citrus, mango, peach, apricot, pine, tea, and just a little warming alcohol. For 9.5%, it’s well-hidden. Medium bodied, sticky, complex, and well-balanced. Feels awesome in the mouth- sweet from the caramel malts and mixed fruits, bitter from the hops, malty, and a bit bready. Perfect aftertaste of fruit, hops, and malt. This is fantastic.

Dec 9, 2009 pours a bit hazy with a decent 1 finger head on top. aroma is really nice with lots of malt and citrus. taste is nice, however i found vanilla to dominate a bit, but still a nice balance. would like a bit more hoppyness to this one, but hey, i like my IPA’s super hoppy...overall a fantastic brew.

Nov 29, 2009 Gift from Joe for watching his mutt. Nice hop aroma, notes of caramel. Amber in color nice white lace around glass, lively carbonation. The malt to bitterness ratio is perfect. Light sourness, medium bitterness. Nice medium body with a hop sticky texture. If you love Alpha King you will Love this beer.

Nov 24, 2009 This brew is so perfectly balanced that the monster abv% and hop content somehow mesh into a simple, citrusy explosive flavor with minimal indication of those elements that so often overpower IIPAs. This is on the level with Bell’s, Founders, the best IIPAs around.
