Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 16, 2003 Updated: Feb 5, 2006 After being away from this beer for about 2 years I finally found it again. It’s still amazing. It seemed a lot more put together. There is still that overwhelming mango, grapefruit, and piney aroma. The palate was less syrupy than the last time and the malts were perfectly balanced with the amazing citrus hops. Why is it so hard to get a hold of this beer. Not to mention it was about twice as expensive as the last time I bought it.
lordeche (352), Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA Jan 7, 2009 Bottle aged for about 9 months. Pours a brilliant orange-red with foamy off-white head, which dissipates after a couple minutes. Gorgeous fruity nose with notes of peach, mango, pineapple, orange, and lemon, balanced out with earthy, and biscuity malts and a caramel backbone. The bitterness has been subdued by the aging, but resiny citrus oils still linger throughout. Really nice biscuit, and caramel malt notes, combined with some delicate earthy-tea flavors that seem to show up in most of the 3F offerings I have tasted. Piney at the finish. Extremely drinkable and nearly perfect. inkubus27 (119), USA Jan 6, 2009 On tap a brewpub. Huge nose of cirtus and typical 3F hops. Nice bitterness throughout with just enough of a malt feel to bring a small amount of balance to the brew. Great example of an IIPA, you can’t go wrong here. aplusbreaks (185), , Colorado, USA Jan 4, 2009 22oz bottle pours a cloudy dark orange amber with a 1/2 inch off white head. Minimal retention, but some foam and a collar do remain. Not much lacing. Aromas of pine resin, floral hops, some malt, and some citrus hop notes as well (grapefruit). Flavors of hops...duh, pine, resin and I actually get a decent dose of malt here. I have no idea how fresh this bottle is, but i imagine it could be fresher. Overall it was great, but i still feel it was missing something. MrChopin (282), Pennsylvania, USA Dec 26, 2008 Thanks to TearsforBeers, my Secret Santa, for the bottle!
Transparent amber with a small white head. Nose is rather plain: grapefruit, pine, slight caramel. Flavor is bitter yet also sweet, lots of sugary caramel and malt lingering through the finish to balance the bitter citrus notes. Slight alcohol throughout. Mouth is quite thin, sticky. Overall pretty standard. If refined, bursting hop flavors are what you seek, there are better IIPAs.
kiefdog (733), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 24, 2008 22oz bottle from Parti-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a fairly clear dark amber to copper color with a one finger off-white head that settles slowly but still provides lacing on the glass. Aroma is floral and sweet with notes of hops, citrus, grapefruit, citrus, honey and hints of toffee. Flavor is sweet and floral with notes of citrus and hops, grapefruit, honey, caramel, and hints of spice. Generally medium body with a hoppy finish.
