Three Floyds Gorch Fock Helles

A buddy of mine brought back from Munster. Pours a strawish yellow with almost no head. Aroma is of hay, bread, and grassy and lemon flavored hops. Light bread, grass, straw, with a light hop finish. Pretty crisp. Clean and pleasant. Pretty light. Well made, but not alot going on.

Bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy pale yellow-gold with a small diminishing white head. Aroma smells nice, quite fruity, with a good amount of hops, a little spicy and some yeast. Flavour: Pretty tasty stuff, fruity along with spicy hops, yeast and light malt -- a touch watery but pretty easy to drink. Average to medium bodied. For a beer that’s not a favourite style of mine this is really good, I’d happily drink this again!

Deep yellow in color the beer poued almost no head and didn’t leave any lacing though bubbles did continue to rise throughout drinking. The nose showed scents of lemon, orange peel, pumpkin and some spices. In the mouth this beer starts off light and effervescent before filling out just a touch more in the midpalate. It remains tart, dry and refreshing though there is very good balancing sweetness through the midpalate and finish. Rather simple but very drinkable and enjoyable however not worth the money. The Gumballhead fits the same drinking occasions, is much cheaper and a better beer.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, courtesy of Harry. Dark yellow, small white head. Nice aroma - lots of hops, yeast, some light lemon - very nice. Good taste - again, hops, lots of lemon, medium body. Very refreshing and drinkable and from my limited knowledge, a good example of the style.

Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle courtesy of LagerLoather. Hazy yellow pour, average white head. Aroma is lemony and grassy, a little sweet. Taste is hoppier - grassy hops, lemon and light. Light body, nice astringency, midly acidic in the finish. Pretty decent.

Bottle. Sour barley malt aroma. Hazy yellow color with minimal head. Nice strong barley malt flavor with just a hint of hops. An excellent example of the style.

A nice, if less than overwhelming helles. Good color and flavor, but nothing extraordinary. Were this $6 for a sixer, I’d be pleased to keep it on hand, but at FFF prices, I expect more.

Clear gold with a thin white head. Well balanced, heavy malt flavor. Pretty boring beer, which is a disappointment for me from Three Floyds because I love most of their stuff.
