Dastrn (115), Warsaw, Indiana, USA Sep 18, 2008 Updated: Jan 17, 2009Poured a somewhat cloudy golden-yellow.
Nose was honeysuckle and yeast.
Taste was rather mild, with malts up front, some lemony hops in the middle, and almost no back end whatsoever. The mouthfeel was very watery and thin.
Not very complex, but extremely drinkable. I’d share with lagerheads anytime! BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Sep 13, 2008 Appearance is a super clear yellow-light orange hue, head is two fingers of loose foam that sustains, light lacing.
Smell is subtle for this style, but I could pick out moderate yeast and bananas, some other light fruit and spices.
Taste is initially dominated by biscuit pale malts leading to lemon citrus hops, some bubblegum sweetness and syrupy fruits, finishes bitter and drying.
Mouthfeel is light-bodied, watery and thin texture, very high carbonation is almost distracting.
Drinkability is compromised by the overly high carbonation and bitterness, otherwise this is decent example of APWA (not too many of these in SoCal) that has good balance, low alcohol presence, but lacking in complexity. Frauditor (148), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA Sep 3, 2008 bottle at OTR thanks to Devin. Pretty sure that I saw jon’s kids finishing the dribblets from this bottle. just amazing. kosko20 (302), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Sep 2, 2008 A very nice wheat brew. A hazy light gold yellow with a nice white head. Aroma is nicely balanced of wheat, hops, lemon and citrus. Flavor is hops and then the lemon and citrus flavors come in. Probably the best wheat beer out there. Palate has a nice sour bitter (very light). Perfect for a wheat ale. PolakPorter (82), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 31, 2008 Very nice lemony hop aroma. Reminds me of a quality pale ale. Taste is very crisp citrus with a slight hint of wheatiness. Definitely not your typical wheat. Somewhat light, but extremely quaffable. A sixer of Gumballhead will not last very long. God bless Three Floyds! BigJoe7231 (24), Schererville, Indiana, USA Aug 30, 2008 A Three Floyds standard. Pours very thin, with a light frothy head. This stuff has a very light hoppy flavor, with a lemony spice after taste. A very drinkable wheat beer. 37steel (186), St. Charles, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 On draft at the brewpub. Straw colored and a little cloudy with a white head. Lemony aromas. Spicey flavors with a dank hop flavor mixed in. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Aug 26, 2008 Look is golden in color sort of hazy with a light white lacy head.
