Really unique aroma for a wheat beer- lemony tang, some soft berry notes, herbal-tea, honey, and citrus hop presence. Flavor is a bit more muted than the nose, but still a fantastic change from the normal wheat beer formula. Really great floral and fruit notes intermingling on a crisp, lively palate. I love the pronounced hops in this one. mcmd (134), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2008 Pours clear golden with no haze - is this really a wheat beer. Aromas of citrus hop, lemons, smells refreshing. Wheat comes thru in the taste with definite hop presence. Very crisp and refreshing palate. Could put back several of these. Wished I would have tried it earlier as I would always jump to alpha king if I had the choice, but this is very approachable and tasty. douglas88 (1577), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 15, 2008 Bottle from Eithcubes. Pours a fairly clear orange with a thin head. The aroma is mostly a rich hops and citrus, also some grains. The taste is dominated by a citrusy hops, quite fresh and full, also full of wheat dipped in honey. Pretty nice. Very clean and easygoing. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. jrob21 (1257), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 14, 2008 This one came in from Eithcubes. The lesson to be learned from this beer is that amarillo hops = bubblegum flavors/aromas. Getting more of an IPA than a wheat experience but I am not complaining. Clear golden orange color. Wheat style comes through faintly on the finish. A little banana and grain flavors there. Straight amarillo is a little one dimensional. A good dimension but still one dimension. luckymortal (16), USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 6, 2008 My favorite wheat ale, to date, blows the blue moon right outten yer arse. Unfortunately, I’m not sure it has wide appeal... It’s been a miss whenever I’ve tried to introduce it to non beer people. Ebel’s makes a better outreach beer IMO. That’s fine, I take Gumball to the BBQ now and there’s more for me!
I gave this beer a 5 for appearance, it looks beautiful too. xcrunner1 (9), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 5, 2008 Smell of hops, musky and sweet. Good clear golden pour and a slight head. Bitter hop profile in the beer with a citrus/sap finish. Nice to sit and drink to quench the thirst on a hot summer day. joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 4, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy dull gold with massive white foamy head that is mostly lasting. Aroma of hops, kind of citrusy, mostly pine. Initial flavor has the presence of a wheat plus all the hops. Balanced taste throughout, hoppiness overtakes at the end. Moderate lacing, light to medium body, moderate carbonation, without any signs of alcohol. Very drinkable, especially for hop heads or open minded fans of wheat beers. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2008 Pours a bright , slightly hazy golden with a very small white head that faded quickly but left a slight swirl of foam on top throughout. Lacing was light to moderate. The smell is surprisingly dominated by hops not wheat. Major resiny pine scents and some lemony citrus aromas form an interesting mix with the sweet wheat. The taste starts with a mild wheat sweetness which gives way almost immediately to a nice crisp hop bite dominated by citrus and pine. The finish is very crisp with a slight hop bitterness balanced by a hint of the wheat. Very crisp and highly carbonated with an overall moderate mouthfeel, heavier than I would expect in a wheat beer. This one is seriously drinkable if not easily categorized. As summer approaches here in Atlanta, this one would be a staple in the fridge if I had access to it. Very refreshing.
