gws57 (1131), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Mar 3, 2008 Found this one bottled at Top Shelf in South Elgin, Illinois. Hazy medium yellow pour and a thick white head. Very unusual wheat ale. An awesome hoppy and citrusy nose tops a very flavorful and complicated taste. Citrusy hops quickly moves into a citrusy maltiness, banana and orange. Very, very good beer.
thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Mar 3, 2008 12ozbottle tanks to stfun: pours golden yellow with mminimal white head. aroma filled with lots of citrusy hops and wheat, flaovr is on the light side but doesnt taste watered down, wheat malt nice touch of hops and a hint of a lemon like citrus added. very easy drinker doesnt puch any limits but is still pretty complex, i like this beer. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Mar 1, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours hazy golden in color with white head. Aroma citrus, wheat and hops. Taste of hops and light wheat with bitter finish. jnj497 (3), Illinois, USA does not count Feb 29, 2008 Great hoppy flavor. Hits all parts of your mouth. Much better than most "run of the mill" IPAs. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Feb 24, 2008 Shared by DrBayern @ Steves house (Thanks Matt!!), poured from a bomber, hazy medium amber. Aroma of wheat, hops with flowery malted tones. Flavour is of a full bodied, hopped wheat beer. Lovely balance, incredible beer. Would love to try on tap. sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slight hazy amber, big white head. Aroma is sweet hops, maybe some wheat. Flavor is hops, malt and wheat. Nice beer. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Feb 13, 2008 Three Floyds Gumballhead is a very interesting beer. I have a tough time calling it a true wheat ale because of the strong hop flavor and initial taste. However, the hops seem to disappear as soon as you swallow the liquid.
A nice appearance with a good head, this beer if full of inconsistency. It drinks like an IPA and finishes like a wheat. That said, it is still very good. mcferc4 (55), New Jersey, USA Feb 13, 2008 Another bottle from StFun, Muchos Gracias. Reasonable head, around a half-inch or so. Yellow gold color, not much yeast visible but definitely present in the aroma. Not too cloudy. Smells fruity and surprisingly hoppy for a Wheat Ale (I guess that’s Three Floyds’ thing, which is fine by me). The taste is really interesting -- much hoppier than other wheat beers that I’ve had. Smooth and has a very nice finish -- bitter and slightly sour. A very good beer.
