Commercial Description:
An American Wheat Beer brewed with red wheat and boat loads of amarillo hops gives this summer brew a lemony finish. The slight haze in the bottle is from the bottle-conditioning, where yeast is added to the bottle for a secondary fermentation. Gumballhead is a Skingraft Comics hero. Check out Skingraft Comics and Records at <a href=http://www.skingraftrecords.com>SkingraftRecords.com. Cheers!

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, yellow gold with only a small gathering of white head. Aroma: Citrus, fresh saw dust, and sweet grain. Taste: Light fruit, and a decent amount of husky grain, finishing with some nice spicy bitter hops. The hopping isn’t overwhelming, but it’s there. Mouthfeel: Thin and fizzy. This is deceptive when you look at this cloudy beer, you think its going to be quite thick. Overall: A fantastic, charismatic beer. I think I could drink many of these in a session.

Hazy gold. Small, frothy, off white head. Nose is wheat and hops, grainy, piney, and citrusy. Smells like a wheat pale ale. Not much to this one.

Appearance was quite grand, you usually have to have a phenominal head to get this high of a score from me but the insane amount of carbonation presence is something I see. The head is white and a thin crown with good lacing. The liquid is a very light gold. Scent is an interesting lemony and hoppy concoction. I noticed a bready scent when I opened the bottle but no longer pin that down. Taste, while I can’t complain that it isn’t pleasant or refreshing, I struggle to detect anything as it isnpretty subdued. Same characteristics as the scent. This would be a he’ll of an intro to craft. Mouth is where of needs to be, thin/med and fizzy. Very east to drink and I want to try more to male sure my palate isn’t fooling me into thinking this is weaker than it really is.

Draft from 14 West in downtown Indianapolis. Pours a clear but slightly hazy gold with a bit of reddish orange tint and a medium white head. Pleasant, light aroma of citrus, hops, melon, and wheat. Flavor is more of the same, and the hops really pop on the palate. Smooth, sweet, perfectly balanced with a light-medium mouthfeel that I enjoy so much I find myself drinking it too fast so I can keep repeating the experience. I absolutely love this beer and can’t imagine anyone disliking it. Three Floyds hits yet another home run.

It looks normal, all hazy with a slight orange tinge after the pour, but that is quickly dispelled. The citrus/floral hop hit your nose receives upon the first sniff serves as an indication that this wheat ale is not normal. A sip confirms, this is a hop monster of a wheat ale. I’ve witnessed its addictive qualities on craftbrew neophytes. It can satisy a hophead’s jones, or it is perfect for summer sessions.

Bought a 6 on my latest trip to Chicago. Poured to a golden orange with thin white head that lingered awhile and left okay lacing. Nose was an interesting mix of hoppy citrus fruits, ilke an IPA and a cookie dough-banana wheat. Mouthfeel was slightly bitter, yet full, and the tate resembled the flavors found in the nose. Although I agree with other raters that it’s hard to call this a straight wheat beer, it was nonetheless a darn good summer cooler.

Had a pint at The Boundary in Chicago. Simply put, this is the finest beer I’ve had in a long time. Fantastic hops. They explode on the nose and palate. Orangey-yellow color. Medium lacing. Fresh, clean. Mindboggling.

On Tap at BJ’s GPM. Looks much more red-tinted in the glass than any wheat beer I remember. Nose is confusing, is this an IPA or a wheat beer? That translates to the nose being ’inviting’ as well. More hops on the nose than any wheat beer I’ve ever had. The wheat comes through in the taste and is mixed in with the citrus, fruity, fresh hops taste of an IPA. This almost seems like a new style all of it’s own, because I’d have a hard time calling it a wheat beer, or an IPA for that matter. Either way, IT’S GOOD!
