marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Mar 13, 2007 Bottle. Bright hoppy aroma with notes of lemon and pineapple. Golden orange color with a minimal head. Flavor is orange with a mild bitter citrus hops accent, very little wheat flavor was noticable. Much less hopped than Alpha King. Watery palate with a mild citrus finish. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA Mar 4, 2007 22oz. Bomber
This is one of my favorite warm weather beers and I’m finally getting around to reviewing it. So here it is.
Gumballhead poured a very nice slightly hazed golden. A quarter inch white head. All kinds of carbonation bubbles along the sides of my pint glass.
This beer smells great. So refreshing. There’s a tiny amount of malt but it’s mostly just citrus hops. Lemon mostly. Smells like candy. My mouth is watering and I can’t wait to drink this up.
I get a mouthful of citrus right up front but is quickly balanced by by a slightly sweet wheat malt. Ends with more citrus(lemon) from the hops and the smallest amout of pine. A good bitterness lingers for a few seconds and vanishes. There’s enough hops to keep my mouth tingly until the next gulp though.
Mouthfeel is on the lighter side. Just the right amount of carbonation to keep things going and move the flavors around in your mouth.
Drinkability is way up there. It’s so easy going down and it keeps you wanting more with the nice hop bite.
10/15/06 Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 1, 2007 Hard to believe this is a wheat beer. If there were a category for "gumball" bres, this one would be signature. Lemon citrus sugar flavor somewhat reminiscent of gum from baseball card packs (but this one’s charm doesn’t quickly disappear). Very enjoyable and unique. A glowing body and summoning head makes this a must try beer for any explorer. oakbluff (298), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Feb 24, 2007 This was a very different, unique and highly quaffable/enjoyable wheat beer. Being a hop head, I found the hop levels to really work well with this brew. Even though bottle conditioned, the clarity of the beer was high. The head was a proper fluffy white. The smell straight from the bottle was what really got me. Fantastic. This beer must kick ass when its fresh and on tap in the summer.
Finish is probably the dryest I’ve experienced with a wheat due to the hops. Very clean. I could drink quite a few of these babies in row and it was pleasure to get my hands on one. My first FFF beer and it was a great start. CigarsLoveBeer (153), Illinois, USA Feb 5, 2007 Bottle: Perfect head on a straw colored body with amber tint. Strong piney hop aroma with pastry like sweetness, lemon, and rye-like spiciness mixed in. In the mouth, this beer starts like many other wheat beers, but this also included a very pronounced lemon flavor right off the bat. This was followed by an emerging rye-like malt quality, and both of these flavors mixed with the dry hoppyness of the finish to give this beer a very refreshing end. Wonderful body, seems very well made, and just about as good as American wheat beers get. TheKegergator (241), California, USA Feb 3, 2007
Thanks to Nuclear George for this one.
As a hophead I have to say. . . OH HELL YEAH!!! What a great brew. Everything I look for in a beer. Quite nice feel. A slightly thicker then normal body for the style. Despite the carbonation seen rising, there was only an average kick on the tongue.Very drinkable, i would rate this as one of my favorite wheat beers. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 3, 2007 Pours a hazy amber, with about an inch of foam. Decent lacing, nothing spectacular. Smells like a sweet black tea. Truly, I smell tea leaves in with the malt. Intriguing.
Tastes like a sweet smooth wheat beer up front, wheat malt, some yeast, some bread, and then - wham - hops. Out of place but delicious. Spicy grassy hops.
Medium to full body, nicely carbonated, mild spice in the aftertaste. I don’t mean to diminish this beer, because it is pretty good, but to me it has all the fixin’s of a wheatwine - just lacking the body and alcohol. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 29, 2007 Updated: Aug 2, 2007Darker golden with decent head / Nose of wheat, hemp, and lemon / Light body with creamy, hoppy palate and smooth finish / Flavors of lemon, pineapple, honey, and wheat. The standard for an American wheat.
