bergface (57), madison, Alabama, USA Jan 21, 2007 I didnt have a full pour so I cant comment too much on the appearance. The hops come through, but not strongly. Definately has a crisp grapefruit finish. Love the mouthfeel, nice and refreshing. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 21, 2007 Bomber courtesy of after4ever. Pours a hazy gold with a lacy white head. Sweet mango aroma. Light body, given the sweetness of this beer.Sweet bread and fruit taste with a grapefruit finish. Wouldn’t it be great if there were more American Wheats like this, and the style wasn’t just a portal for transitions from the macros? after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jan 21, 2007 Bomber--thanks, BeachBum25! Pours hazy medium copper with a thin white head and minimal lace. Huge floral/cotton candy/candied orange nose. Deliciously sugary. Big attack; medium body and tingly carb and forward tangy flavors--biscuit, caramel, tingly light pine in the finish. Wouldn’t it be great if American wheats always tasted somewhere near the ballpark of complexity that this one has? You’d drink them all the time. I would, anyway. This is great stuff, hidden away in the surprising camoflage of a brain-dead dull style. Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 18, 2007 This beer has little head, and has a light orange-gold color. Hoppy scent with a solid mouth feel and a floral and orange flavor. While this is a wheat, it very much borders in the area of an IPA. RedHaze (370), Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA Jan 14, 2007 Pours a mildly hazy orange with a fluffy two finger head that fades slowly to a very thin, spotty cap. The thin ring that’s left behind leaves quite a bit more lace than I expected.
Smell; mmm....hops, and lots of them for a wheat beer. Pine and citrus smells come floating out of my glass, as well as some mild hints of caramel malts. But where is the wheat in this wheat beer?
Taste; those piney and citric hops are right there in your face, but I like it. The sweet malts definitely make a nice appearance, once you let this warm up a bit. The wheat is more felt than tasted, and lightly at that, which gives this a close to medium bodied mouthfeel. This reminds me more of an APA or IPA than it did of a wheat beer, but despite the lack of any wheat flavors, I still like this offering from Three Floyds. I just wish it felt and tasted more like a wheat beer. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 10, 2007 Doesn’t smell like a wheat but I’m okay with that-almost hoppy in the aroma. The taste is nothing like a wheat beer either, so it seems that it shouldn’t really be allowed in this category. The taste is hoppy and grassy, but has a tainted aftertaste that really brings it down late. DeuceDeuceOU (51), Athens/Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jan 4, 2007 Shared with Bullet2urbrain. As mentioned, it tasted a little more like an APA than what I was expecting. The large presence or hops seemed out of the ordinary, as I am not the hugest fan of the wheat style. There is a hint of wheatness very very late in this one. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA Jan 3, 2007 22oz Bottle, Shared With DeuceDeuceOU. a good beer, but strikes me more as an American Pale rather than a Wheat. still a delictable beer and well worth drinking.
