grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Aug 17, 2006 Updated: Aug 26, 2007Pours a dark gold. Nice floral hops aroma. Nice sweet flavor, a little bite to it. Palate is OK, not great. Very good beer overall. TY OG. Re-rate - Not as good as I remember, seemed like it had too much bitterness this time around. Still very good. GG (1609), NorCal, California, USA Aug 17, 2006 Thanks to moejuck for scoring this one for me. How this can be an American Wheat is beyond me. I think someone left the "wheat" part out because the hops in this is so freakin’ overpowering there’s nothing there but...well, hops. Great if you’re a hophead, but not so if you are looking for a great wheat beer. Aroma is piney, and sweet. Where’s the "bubblegum" in gumball head? Appearance was golden yellow in color. Mouthfeel was slightly sticky, medium bodied. Flavors were just hops. No wheat character, not much malt character, just hops. I guess it’d be an okay pale ale but to call this an American Wheat is just misleading. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Aug 14, 2006 Mostly clear pour from this 22 oz bottle. Not much head on there either. Aromas were very sweet citrus. Peachy too. No Gumball as I had expected. The flavor was very similar. I detected what must have been the yeast that seemed familiar to me from other 3F brews. Some Gumball on the finish, but still just mostly hops. Good, but not what I expected at all. bombshelter (349), Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 13, 2006 slightly cloudy, gold, big head. aroma is earthy, grassy (mint?) hops. medium body. flavory is wheaty and sweet, but pervaded by grassy hops. not terribly bitter (the finish is barely on the sweet side) but very grassy. good but not great. MHED (112), lisle, USA Aug 9, 2006 man i love this brewery. 22 oz. bottle. Take the typical nw pale ale and concentrate the citrus hops and balance it with high quality light caramel and pale malt, and you have an incredibley refreshing summer red-wheat beer. if you like this desciption, its a must! WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Aug 7, 2006 22oz bottle drank at home and purchased at Chevy Chase Wine and Liquors in Washington DC on 8/7/06. The beer pours a light cloudy color with a big foamy head. The beer smells and tastes extreamely hoppy, while still looking like a normal wheat beer. Another impressive brew from 3 Floyds. Tasty and quite drinkable. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Aug 5, 2006 This bottle is probably two years old. Pours a hazy light amber with a small fizzy white head. Aroma is rather unusual in that it doesn’t smell like a wheat at all... grapefruit and pine hops dominate at first, receding to reveal butterscotch candy. Flavor is light and crisp with flavors of honey wheat bread mixed with a drizzle of fresh citrusy hops. The hops don’t dominate as much as I thought (I mean, just knowing FFF). Actually, this is quite balanced and very refreshing. I’m glad the ABV on this is lower, because I’m drinking it pretty quickly. Definitely different from any other American Wheat I’ve had, which is probably why I like it so much. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Aug 5, 2006 I’ve been looking forward to trying this beer for awhile now. Here goes... Beer is beautiful golden yellow, almost orange and amazingly clear. Nice carbonation supporting a lasting crown. Wonderful floral and piney hop aroma that I wasn’t expecting for a wheet beer. Perfect body and super smooth. Great hop flavor that doesn’t puch out as I thought it might. The hoppiness is perfectly balanced with the maltiness. Finish is smooth and slowly fades away. Amazing beer, although by sight, smell, and taste, I wouldn’t have known it was a wheat beer. Regardless, another excellent Three Floyds brew. Those guys have me hooked, now if only I had a money tree... 22 oz bottle, $6.99 or $7.99 (I’ve forgotten) from River’s Bend.
