gourmand77 (1), richmond, Virginia, USA does not count Jul 24, 2006 Pours a cludy orange color with a sweet sugar(gummmy)aroma. You can also smell the wheat off the head. Medium lace after the head settles down quickly. On tasting the amarillo hops came to the front leaving a nice bitterness on the palate balanced slightly by the wheat malt. Overall a very drinkable beer after a long hot day. Kevster (222), Bradenton, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2006 On tap 7/14 @ Sheffield’s in Wrigleyville: I was expecting a wheat beer in appearance and flavor but got an IPA style instead. Pours a clear copper color with an off-white head that is mostly lasting. Aroma and flavor is is hoppy and citrusy leaving a bitter finish. Since I like IPA styles this was very good! Illini08 (528), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jul 18, 2006 22 oz Bomber. More of an IPA than a wheat, but a heck of a good beer. Hoppy and citrusy aroma. Nice hoppy flavor with solid malts to back it up. A bit of yeast in the finish is really the only indication that this is a wheat beer. If I find this on tap again, I will def. rerate, because I have had it on tap before and it was notably better than out of the bottle. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Jul 17, 2006 Ok this is not a wheat beer, this is a pale ale that happens to have wheat as a good portion of it’s malt bill. With that said, pours orange with a small off white head, and light to medium carbonation. Aroma is citrus/pineapple, with some malt and wheat. Taste is hoppy, some wheat and dough, with a bitter hoppy finish. TonyBanannas (36), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2006 This is probably one of the easiest beers to drink that I’ve ever had. Pours a cloudly off orange with little head. Scent of hops and citrus. Pineapple? Extremely smooth at the taste. I wouldnt call this an IPA because it isnt hopped like one. DreadNaught is an IPA and this is no where near it. I think the hops mix well with the beers finish and balances it well. I’m gonna go finish enjoying this fine brew. Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Jul 12, 2006 A wheat beer huh? ok, but flavor isn’t a wheat to me, but thats ok, this beer is full of hops, and has alot of citrus flavor, smooth on the palate, great beer on a hot Cali day like today! Thanks Duane! stefgriff (6), Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jul 10, 2006 Had a 22 oz bottle. Great ruddy color, thin lacing, and good mouth feel. However, my first impression was, "This is a wheat beer? I beg to differ." I felt as it I were drinking a slightly off bottle of Alpha King or Dreadnaught. Granted, I like both of those beers, but they are not wheat beers. The only time I could taste the wheat was somewhat in the aftertaste. bdjames29 (272), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 10, 2006 22 oz bottle. I bought this beer mainly because my wife loves good American Wheat beers. I noticed that this beer received a very high AW ranking so I picked it up and touted it very highly to my wife. As you might guess she was very excited to give this one a try. Keep in mind that my wife does NOT like IPAs. To her, as well as my, dismay, we found that this beer was in fact a cloudy, wheaty-appearing IPA. It is not a wheat beer as it is advertised. I loved it becasue I love hops. I rate this beer low because it isn’t what it should be not becasue its bad - because its very good.
Everbody ranking this beer is saying "its not your typical wheat beer (its not a wheat beer)" or "I was expecting something different (you were expecting a wheat beer) " or " it almost tastes like an IPA (it is an IPA)." HELLO!
