Commercial Description:
An American Wheat Beer brewed with red wheat and boat loads of amarillo hops gives this summer brew a lemony finish. The slight haze in the bottle is from the bottle-conditioning, where yeast is added to the bottle for a secondary fermentation. Gumballhead is a Skingraft Comics hero. Check out Skingraft Comics and Records at <a href=http://www.skingraftrecords.com>SkingraftRecords.com. Cheers!

great summer beer. pours a clear yellow iwth a big white foamy head.. leaves some spotty lace on the glass. aroma is floral hops, pine, orangepeel . Nice mix between a wheat beer and a ipa. Flavor is much the same with some wheat and bread notes. the girlfriend loves it. There are few beers that are more refreshing than a fresh bottle of this.

Thanks to kseecs for sending this along with some other Three Floyds beers in a very recent trade. Knowing that Gumballhead is at its best when fresh I did not hesitate to open it just as soon as it had settled a bit. My reward was a fabulous sessionable IPA/wheat ale which is near the top of its class.

Aroma / Appearance - The foamy stark white body contrasted against the carbonated golden fluid beneath. As it percolated upwards the bubbles released a blend of fresh pine, grapefruit, and malt. Hoppy and strong I have always thought of this more as an IPA than a wheat ale.

Flavor / Palate - Fluid and smooth it tickles the tongue and throat before easing into the stomach. As it makes its voyage it leaves a trail of calm bitterness that tastes like a blade of fresh grass. Excellent all around I am glad that this is a regular release that has not lost anything over time.

TAP: didn’t know this was in the "wheat ale" category until I saw it here - would have thought it a pale ale. More hop profile than I would expect from a wheat, very smooth and drinkable. Thought it was low on flavor for a pale ale, but is pretty flavorful for a wheat.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. This pours a golden color with a fluffy white head that settles to a thin layer and yields some blotchy lacing. The aroma is citrusy and a surprisingly strong pine hoppy scent. The flavors are citrusy as well, orange peel, lemon, with a hoppy kick to it. The hops are strong here, at least for what’s supposed to be a wheat and it took me a couple of sips to adjust to that. This is one of the better, if not best, American Wheat beers I’ve had, even though it’s not really true to the style. If someone told me this was 6.8% abv instead of 4.8% I probably would have bought that. Too bad I don’t have regular access to this, would be a good one in the Florida sun!

On Tap at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN. Was surprised to see this on tap at the casino. Had several glasses of this. The law of diminishing maginal utility did not apply to this one. I enjoyed the last drop as much as the first.

Growler from Rich O’s in New Albany. Pours dark orange with a hint of gold and reasonable head. Aroma of hops and surprisingly enough, gum balls. Mouth feel is very dry but when the flavor hits, it hits you hard. Great bitter taste of hops that lingers and eventually turns into a sweet gumbally flavor that dissipates very slowly. I had no idea this was a wheat ale when I was drinking it because it tasted so unique. Nice job Three Floyds!

Pours golden with minimal white head. Aroma is citrus, definite wheat quality, banana pepper, and vinegar. Flavor is lemon citrus, wheat malt, and hints of tart tropical fruit. Palate is super refreshing with a super dry finish. Nice one.
