stuff on a hot summer afternoon.
Rerate: 4/7/05 3Floyds Brewery: This great wheat has been clarified and hopped up...much to my enjoyment! DrnkMcDermott (1861), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Bought a bomber bottle at the brewery, and it must have just come off the line. It pours with a big smell of fresh, green hops that just dazzles the nose. Foamy head more pilsner than wheat style. I think the smell helped overwhelm the grapefruit taste of the amarillo hops, because I couldn't find it easily. Maybe once it's sat for awhile, it will be closer to the way it tasted last year, but man, it's still great!
On tap, at the brewery, 2003. While my experience points are still low around here, I'll stick my neck out and say this is quite unlike any other beer out there. American Wheats are a little bland, unless they've been brewed with the spicy flavor of German wheats, but the Floyds never cared for following style. This has a big zesty wheat taste that I somehow guessed was North Dakota winter wheat, and Nick said I was right, but I don't know how I knew. Like with most 3F beers, there's a big smack in the face of hops, this one is all Amarillo, giving a different more orangey taste. Pleasing orange color, too. Gotta get out and find this stuff while it's around! mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 16, 2007 Pours a copper amber color with a small white head. Smells of sweet malts, very mild wheat, and yeast. Hops were there too, but just faint traces. The taste was very malty as well, the wheat seemed to be in the background. Almost had some barleywine characteristics to it, which were unusual. Sweet little finish. Some cinnamon, wheat, and malts in the aftertaste. Didnt taste much like a wheat, but still tasty. Heavily aromatic, mainly passion fruits (peach, tangerine and lemon. The grains bring forth biscuits and caramel in the aroma.
An interesting, unorthodox approach to the style but I don’t find this to be all that different from loads of others. It is hoppier, no doubt, but whatever the hops bring they take away equally. Notes of lemon and other citrus fruits. LinusStick (1851), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of hops and a little yeast. Pour was a cloudy light orange with a small one finger white head.Taste was like an American pale ale. Hoppy and malt in the aftertase. As an American wheat (which is hard to agree with) is perfect. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA

Some citrus and a nice malt backing. Malt flavors, more spruce, wheat or malts and some bitter hops. Nice malt palate and damn smooth

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Pour is a hazy gold with a large white head. Aroma is a a very nice hop especially for a wheat ale. Flavor is some grain and citrus hops but nothing really stands out. A odd beer with the araoms of a pale ale but the flavor of a wheat. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2004 Thanks to Marinaro500 for this 3F specialty! Pours dark golden with a fluffy white head that diminishes liesurely. Doesn’t seem particularly wheaty. Aroma is big on the hops, slightly sweet - almost IPA-ish in character. Flavor is good, smooth sweet start with a bold citrus hoppiness and a tangy finish. Great summer beer! Light to medium body and prickly carbonation.
