Still, Gumballhead seems sweeter than most IPAs and APAs nor is it as bitter. The aroma is citrusy, malty and floral. The flavor is dominated by caramel sweetness with fruit notes, oranges and peaches. Slightly bitter aftertaste. Medium body with crisp carbonation. And then there are the hops that Three Floyds seems to skillfully blend into all of its brews. Nicely done. mephisto (1144), Taiwan

Hazy medium yellow pour and a thick white head. Very unusual wheat ale. An awesome hoppy and citrusy nose tops a very flavorful and complicated taste. Citrusy hops quickly moves into a citrusy maltiness, banana and orange. Very, very good beer.

Nonetheless, an inviting aroma of lemon and hay removes any concern. Medium body that is velvety smooth. Big hop flavors of lemon and orange over a sweet caramel malt backbone. For a beer with so much hop aroma and flavor, the lack fo bitterness came as a surprise. A lingering lightly sweet finish that is quite pleasing. Very drinkable, nicely balanced. Poured from 12 oz bottle into a conical pint glass. Pours a nice lively yet hazy golden color. Small head that manages to stick around and laces fairly well. Aroma of hops, citrus, and some wheaty notes. Taste is wonderful. Hops and citrus with the wheat beer finish I truly enjoy. Hoppy cerealesque finish. Wheat and a lemony aftertaste that is a little candy-ish and sticks to the palate and is reminiscent of about 15-30 minutes after you’ve eaten some Lemonhead candies. A hoppy assertive wheat beer that is wonderfully done. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 17, 2007 Bottle that mreusch brought back form Chicago. I can see why this is the #1 rated American Wheat. It is hands-down the best I have ever tasted and by a large margin. Pours a hazy gold with a frothy, white head. The nose is of grassy hops, wheat and a faint citrus. Light-bodied and thin with moderate carbonation, it finishes lightly bitter--rare for an American Wheat. The flavor is a sweet wheat with solid grassy and citrus hops. This is, by far, the hoppiest wheat that I’ve ever sampled, but it is still quite well balanced. The Amarillos really dominate the character of this easy drinker, and it makes me wonder why more brewers haven’t tried to do something similar with a wheat. If they sold this in KC, it would be a summer staple in my fridge. Thanks a ton for sharing this one Matt! dolemike1 (1129), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA
