Commercial Description:
An American Wheat Beer brewed with red wheat and boat loads of amarillo hops gives this summer brew a lemony finish. The slight haze in the bottle is from the bottle-conditioning, where yeast is added to the bottle for a secondary fermentation. Gumballhead is a Skingraft Comics hero. Check out Skingraft Comics and Records at <a href=http://www.skingraftrecords.com>SkingraftRecords.com. Cheers!

Pours a hazy light amber color. Aroma of citrusy and spicy hops. Flavor of citrusy and spicy hops with wheat. Light body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. It’s good but it feels a lot like a Weizen - IPA hybrid, if I feel like having a weizen I’ll prefer to have a true weizen and the same thing goes for IPAs.

Bottle thanks to belgiumtripel. Pours with a largish off-white head over a nearly clear solid gold body. Aroma of dank, citrus hops, of a DIPA level. Marijuana and wheat. Really dank. Flavor is citrus, wheat and herbal hops. Very nice and drinkable, but not complex or mind blowing. Nearly watery. Medium carbonation, dry finish. Solid beer.

In short: A smooth but crisp hoppy thirst-quencher.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear golden body with a small white head
In long: A crisp beer with crisp caramel and dried honey. Some floral notes. Rather hoppy with what feels like a mix of citrusy american hops and English hops (although I’d be surprised if any English hops were used). Very nice session beer. There were some light lemony notes but overall this is not the light summer ale I got used to with Wheat Ales. Thicker and more nourishing than just about any Wheat Ales I’ve had before. Another excellent Three Floyds product, although saying excellent Three Floyds product is about as redundant as AOL for Dummies.

Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Jul 9th, 2004: This beer definitely stretches the definition of the style, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t one of the best Wheat beers I have ever had. I consider myself a comic book fan yet I have never heard of Mr. Gumballhead, but I like his style! The beer is a golden yellow color with nice effervescence. The head is medium thin milky white and lasting. Nice aroma of floral hops, wheat and a touch of citrus. Light-bodied and very easy to drink, with less hops in the flavor than in the nose but still a great amount. There is also a nice wheat presence along with some lemon and grass. Overall, the wheat overlaid with the hops texture makes this pretty close to the perfect summer beer for me. A bomber of this will disappear before you know it.

West coast hoppiness, golden amber, small off-white head. Quite hoppy and a malt follow up. Medium bodied, hoppy. Very nice beer, doesn't seem to fit the style. Thanks joey_capps.

RBSG 04. Pours a light orange/golden color witha small white head. Great citrus hop aroma. Taste is very hoppy but balances the wheaty malt with a nice controlled bitterness.

True to form, Three Floyds has hopped the livin’ daylights out of this American Wheat so that it approaches APA or even IPA territory. Only slightly wheaty. If you love hops, this could be for you. Nice fluffy light head. Bit of citrus (slight). I wish they’d brewed this closer to style, or labeled it an Imperial Wheat.

Bomber--thanks, BeachBum25! Pours hazy medium copper with a thin white head and minimal lace. Huge floral/cotton candy/candied orange nose. Deliciously sugary. Big attack; medium body and tingly carb and forward tangy flavors--biscuit, caramel, tingly light pine in the finish. Wouldn’t it be great if American wheats always tasted somewhere near the ballpark of complexity that this one has? You’d drink them all the time. I would, anyway. This is great stuff, hidden away in the surprising camoflage of a brain-dead dull style.
