| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2009 Golden amber with glistening reddish hues - a very nice color. Ivory-colored 2 cm head that dissipates quickly leaving small lacings.
A pleasant mix of red grapefruit, hops, some pine-needles, malts, fudge and caramel in the nose.
Plenty of malty flavors - fudge and big caramel flavors. Prominent taste of red grapefruit, citric notes and some pine-needles. Some hops and grass. The sweetness and bitterness are very integrated and mixes well. The finish is rather bitter with lingering notes of fruity hops and some warming alcohol.
Medium body with a smooth texture. Gentle carbonation.
A very good beer and it really came out as showcasing good craftsmanship. Well balanced. But still, I’m glad I drank it now and didn’t cellar it longer since I got the feeling that the hops have started to fade. The taste of caramel was already prominent and it seems to me that the hops might have been more prominent when it was really fresh. And I think that more time in the cellar will result in a loss of hop flavors and a less balanced brew with sweet caramel as the main component. Although I really enjoyed it, I don’t think it managed to meet my high expectations, considering the quality of the two breweries that created it.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Final choice for Christmas. Superb long aroma if a little overpowering. Massive full bodied oat, bread malts to aspire for. Tangy citrus hops and a cool long finish. A tragedy that I probably won’t consume this on tap. I usually find oat beers bland but this is special and should be iconic. Poured into a pint glass. Nice fluffy head. Will seek out again. Oh awesome label. Can I buy the artwork? shrubber85 (3000), Wallhalben, Germany
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Bottle. Spicy apple/orange and caramel malt aroma. Slightly hazy orange-amber color with slight head. Spiced orange and barley malt flavor with a bitter grass hops finish. Nice, smooth beer - the easiest drinking barley wine I’ve ever had. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Sample at the Eurostash II tasting on 12/12/09: This beer pours a deep mahogany color with medium thick and fluffy off-white head that diminishes slowly. Thick sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of earthy malt and bread, plus some citrus. Medium to full body with an herbal and earthy character, and flavors of grainy malt, grapefruit and hops. Notes of alcohol as well. The finish is doughy malt and hops with a lingering citrus aftertaste. Pretty good overall. 5000 (2634), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Bottle:   Deep amber, light carbonation, large frothy off-white head, very nice lacing.   Barnish/Oatish malt nose, slight pine, even a bit of citrus peel as well, but faint.   Not as hoppy, floral, or bright as I would
have expected for a Three Floyds.   Not all that malty, at least for what I would of thought for a Three Floyds Barley Wine.   Very oatish, slight barn and stale hops.   Seems fairly clean, but its not all that bright.
For a Barley Wine it seems a little flat, one sided, stale, and uninteresting.   Its not a bad beer, but compared to Behemoth it pales.   Has quite a bit of this barnish aspect to it.   Slight tea and tobacco, but its light.
Minor malt sweetness lingers.   I am glad its not overly hopped, but the malt side seems stale and overly barnish.   Still prefer Behemoth over this one.   Thanks Kan for the bottle!
