DrunkenWeasel (218), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 30, 2006 Pours dark amber with a thin white head. Smell is of floral hops and caramel malts. Taste is very similar nice intial hop kick with a strong malt takeover that commands the aftertaste as well. Not Three Floyds best but quite good.
bellmyer (13), EAST MOLINE, Illinois, USA Oct 9, 2008 Growler from the brewery. 5 days old so it’s not as fresh as it should be, which is my fault. Pour is a deep brown with a moderate head that fades away into a ring. Aroma is malty with dark fruit. Nice smell. First sip is very sweet. Very smooth and very complex sweetness. Mouthfeel isn’t too thick, isn’t too thin, but is gone rather quickly. Still good. Solid brew. beerbill (1318), Laurel, New York, USA Oct 4, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of my Summer Secret Santa. Pours a hazy dark brown with rusty highlights. Moderate off-white head disappeared after the first two sips and left spotty lace. Pleasant aroma of malt, brown sugar and dates. The flavor is sweet malt with brown sugar and a bit of earthy peat. Smooth with some caramel silkiness. Enjoyable. joefflin (66), USA Sep 29, 2008 Pint glass. Chumleys. I thought this beer was fascinating. It had a great smokey aroma. It was a dark brown hue but had a very thin head. Great flavor, had a smokey barbeque taste that was excellent, definitely a must. Rynoplasty (234), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Sep 23, 2008 Pours amber brown with a small off white head. Aroma and taste are big and malty. JoeMcPhee (3815), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Sep 21, 2008 Deep amber-orange beer with almost no head at all. Aroma is very malty and sweet. Chewy and lightly fruity. Some heavy caramel and toffee and perhaps a bit of chocolate. Smells quite a lot like a UK barleywine. Toffeeish/sweet flavour with a light nuttiness behind the sweet caramel. No smokiness but a lovely light cherryish sweetness. The flavour is less sweet that the aroma might suggest (no idea how old this bottle is) but there is a nice lingering chocolate and caramel sweetness. It’s a pretty nice, easy drinking scottish ale.
