TAP: at Three Floyd’s - summer 2008. Black/dark brown pour, great Dunkel with banana, sweet chocolate, and subtle cloves. The average score of around 3.5 seems underrated to me - this beer is terrific.

On tap at Three Floyds and served in an Aventinus weizen glass. This beer poured a dark brown with a few ruby highlights and a thin head of tan foam that quickly faded away. No lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of bananas, light chocolate, and some fruity esthers. The flavor included bananas, chocolate, wheat, and dark fruits. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with light carbonation. Highly quaffable. A nice brew.

On tap at the brewpub on 7/3/08. A wheat beer was exactly what I needed to quench my thirst from the hot ride down. Brown black in an Aventinus glass with a tiny bubbled off white head. Strong banana/clove yeasty notes with a touch of chocolate. The carbonation is fizzy and not creamy as I was hoping. Sweet baker’s chocolate malts and toffee that fade to the drying nutty, banana, and clove finish. There is an off flavor that begins to come out as astringent possibly from faded hops. Between the thin fizzy body and off flavors, this brew didn’t quite do it for me.

On tap at three floyds brewpub. Opaque dark brown with red tint and creamy small head. Roasted malt aroma with a little hairspray, banana and subtle sweetness. Banana and medium fruit sweetness upfront, some alc, a good amount of hops all on top of of medium, dark malt. Medium to thin, lightly carbonated body. Pretty nice and easily drinkable, pretty well done but nothing out of the ordinary.

Draft at FFF. Pours a black/dark brown, a lot darker than I was going to guess, had a small off white head. Huge banana aroma and flavor. A little bit of clove in there as well and also a little bubblegum type flavor. I thought it was pretty solid and ended up stealing more then half of it from my girlfriend :)

This draft brew from the brewery poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a semi-opaque no visible carbonation dark brown colored body. The aroma was of fingernail polish and old stale bananas. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of malt banana and dark malt. An OK brew just nothing special.

Draft at brewpub. Pours black/brown with hues of ruby red, topped with a pillowy, dissipating, fizzy, light khaki head. Huge hose of banana with mild spice. Taste is black patent malt (slight) and hefe goodness. A mild, astringent roast with huge banana and clove taste. Very dunkelweizen-esque. Great, fresh taste.
