muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Apr 5, 2006 Draught pint at the brewpub graciously provided by The Man himself, soon-to-be-former brewer JT. Pours nearly opaque with almost no head, too cold at first but I take my time....very light roastiness in the nose, pretty much taken over by sweet molasses, brown sugar, prune and perhaps a touch of coconut.....body is quite sweet, almost syrupy but never really cloying, with hints of licorice and milk chocolate, a touch lactic and bitter/sour towards the finish....moderately full, with warming alcohol that surprisingly never really burns, and really doesn’t betray its strength (I would have said 7-7.5%)....very smooth until the somewhat herbal, acerbic end. Nice, and I know the aim was for a more sweet "island" character, but I could have used just a touch more roast; its not hard to drink one pint, but two I think would have been tough. Not amazing, but another winner from this fine brewer, soon to be brewing elsewhere, alas....
