Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 10, 2009 Updated: Apr 29, 2009Thanks to hellbilly for bringing a growler of this to the bockyhorsey tasting. Pours very dark with no head. Aroma is of very complex roastiness and not much else. Taste is velvety with a nice level of roast. Tasty, but not terribly complex. A little sweet and roasty, but doesn’t have the taste complexity to cover-up/backup. Overall nice beer. Suck it Dark Lord. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 14, 2009 Sampled at the Bockyhorsey tasting, growler courtesy of hellbilly. Super dark brown/black color pour with a foamy brown head. Nice aroma of roasty malt, chocolate, molasses and coffee. Flavor is deep and complex, including all of the above and a nice touch of hops. Really great brew. Nice to see this coming from an AZ brewer! rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 9, 2009 Growler courtesy of hellbilly at Bockys pad.
Pours a nice dark brownish black with a decent sized brown head. Aroma is malt, hops, barley, molasses. Flavor is hops, barley, coffee, chocolate malt. Alcohol is well hidden and beer has a nice creamy mouthfeel. Great stout, thanks Josh! nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 9, 2009 Growler thanks to hellbilly. Had this after Dark Lord, and have to say that it is actually better and deserving of its title as AZ’s best beer. Pours black with a nice brown head. Smells and tastes of balanced flavors of roasted coffee, vanilla, and dark cocoa with a note citrusy hops at the back of the palate. Disguises the alcohol content so well you could actually session this. Time in a barrel would make this ridiculous. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Jan 26, 2009 Growler. Pours nearly black as night with a very firm dark khaki head. Nice. Aroma or roasted chocolate malt, a touch of espresso, bittersweet chocolate. Some leather and earthy hops. Light notes of anise and charred wood as well. Flavor is quite nice. Well roasted malt, chocolate, char. Slightly bitter hops. i like this one because the malt is perfectly roasted... not bringing out the astringent and bitter overly roasted malt. Medium to full bodied with a slightly bitter malt finish. A very well done Imperial. Thanks Craig! highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Jan 22, 2009 Pours an incredibly thick viscous black with wonderful cocoa head. Awesome aroma of some alcohol and big roasted/chocolate malt. For being so viscous the palate is a nice medium body. Flavor is not overbearing but upfront. Roasty and well balanced. A little alcohol on the finish, but not overly done. Great beer, glad it is a local. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 5, 2008 Black colour with a light brown head. Roasted malty, coffee bitter aroma with vanilla/ chocolate sweet notes. Roasted, coffee bitter flavor with sweet notes. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Aug 11, 2008 Bottle 64cl. Black color with a virtually none appearance, virtually none lancing, fully diminishing, light brown to beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, licorice. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration, and a dry dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (300508)
