Bottle. Black coloured with a small beige head. Sweet and roasted aroma of coffee with notes of liquorice and hops. Sweet and roasted flavour of coffee and liquorice with notes of hops and pine needles. Dry hoppy finish.

# 28 Bottle. [Papsoe’s great blind tasting, thanks Henrik!] Average creamy beige head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Pitch black color. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, coffee, berries. Over the palate came roasted malt, bitter cold coffee and dark chocolate. Hint of liquorish and faint hoppy feel. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and alcoholic texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Roasted malt and liquorish lingering finish. 8-4-8-4-16 = 4.0 19-04-2008

Blind tasting at Papsoes place, another great session, thanks Henrik! Beer #28: Pours dark brown with a diminished light brown head. Smooth and chocolate malt aroma with a light roasted note. Flavour is like a classic imperial stout with a solid chocolate and roasted malt flavour. Light bitterhops note providing a nice break in the malt dense flavours. Dry and roasted malt finish with a light chocolate note.

Courtesy SoLan. Sampled from growler. Black pour, thin, short-lived tan head. Little roast, chocolate, licorice, molasses. Roasty and alcoholic taste is the feature here. No significant licorice in the taste. Not complex, but pretty damn tasty anyways.

Pours a dark brown with a deep tan 1" head. Spotty lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, dark esters, light toffee, and light chocolate, slight coffee. Flavors of the same. Nice smooth, creamy palate, with just a touch of dryness. Very good beer. The alcohol is hidden very well in this beer.

Growler from cbkschubert. Thanks man! Pours a black shade of black with some brown around the edge and a thin head that disappeared. Nice lacing. Aroma is that of chocolate and coffee with a touch of earth, licorice, and dark fruits too. Roast, than chocolate, than pepper, dark fruits, earth, and licorice in the finish. A touch of lingering dryness and sweet licorice. Not too hot. Pretty smooth and velvety too. Very complex. Very well done. One of the better Impy’s I have tried.

I was a little worried about this one when the cap popped with nary a sound, but all of those fears were gone once I saw how beautifully this beer poured out. Black as night, dark mocha colored head, two fingers thick and nice retention. Resolves to a layer of craggy bubbles and leaves thick coats of sheet lacing on the sides of the glass. Nose is impressive, chalky chocolate and coffee beans, licorice, peppery leathery spice, and dark, charred malts. Fore is semi astringent, creamy, full of chocolate and coffee, with a leather and licorice backing. Full bodied, creamy and substantial. Astringency builds on the back end of the palate, welling up with each sip. Very warming as the ABV washes over you, especially considering the generous bomber of this elixir that Craig sent me. Licorice and black pepper build on the back end as well, creating a nice spiciness that works really well with the other parts of the beer. Outstanding.

Thanks SoLan. Poured from growler, the color is an opaque black. Aroma is mellow, with a roasted coffee note heading the attack. Some licorice,black pepper, figs and dark fruit round it out. Flavor is roasted and, slightly bitter, with a touch of espresso to round this one out.
