Commercial Description:
Winner of the BRONZE award in the Imperial Stout Category at the 2000 World Beer Cup International Beer Competition. Russian Imperial Stouts were originally brewed for export to the Royal Court of Russia where they were enjoyed by Catherine the Great. Ours has a rich intense maltiness with black currant, toffee and dark roasted malt flavors. The higher alcohol content is sure to warm you up from the inside out.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this hand bottled sample with us at the Nashville Tasting! Poured a deep black with a tan head that left light lacing. Aromas of chocolate covered coffee beans. Big roast coffee flavor that has a malty background. Full body with a bitter coffee aftertaste. Nice!!

Thanks to Irishboy for sending this and to cbkshubert for hand-bottling this. Very Good fill. Did an aggressive fill and wound up with a very nice rich tan foamy head. Lots of chocolate flavors here and very thick on the tongue. Just a dash of bitterness here but really loads of chocolate and some roasted malts and coffee. Thanks to both of you guys.

Thanks to cbkshubert for sending this one and decaturstevo for sharing it at our Nashville tasting!! Hand bottled 12 oz. Thin fleeting head over an opaque black brew. Pleasant aroma not of coffee, but of roasting coffee; extra point for the first time I’ve experienced this aroma in a beer. Tart bitter flavor that finishes dry and hides it’s alcohol well. An interestingly different Impy worth a try.

Hand bottled sample from Decaturstevo at the Nashville Tasting. Very nice aroma chocolate and coffee beans. Pours deep brown with a thin black head. Initial flavor of roast coffee, with some dry burnt notes. This transitions to notes of molasses, nuts, and vanilla. Bitter finish that is a bit prickly on the palate. Nice beer.

Hand bottled from hopdog, thanks. Nice roasted malty aroma with a dark body and nice size head. Full bodied flavor with a nice coffee and malt profile that was smooth and warming. Finishes well. Good stout. Update: as god as last time. Very smooth and does indeed provide a nice warming finish as before. Good stout. Rating unchanged.

22oz hand bottled from Growler from cbkschubert (thanks a million for this!). Poured a dark, dark black with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of roast, cocoa, caramel, and coffee. Tastes of roast, citrus, coffee, caramel, and I was getting some dark fruits. Alcohol content well hidden. Lacing left on the glass. I’m glad I had the chance to try this one - thanks again!

Much thanks to hopdog for seeking this out per my request and bringing the hand bottled bomber to the tasting... Appears black with a dark brown hue and a dark tan head that quickly fades into a small collar. Spotty lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of roasted nuts, earthy, cocoa, caramel, and brown sugar. Taste is of sweet cocoa, hoppy, light citrus, roasted nuts, espresso, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is fizzy, earthy, grainy, full bodied, light woodiness, citrus, and coffee along the tongue.
