Draught at the San Jose brewpub. Pours black with a large beige nitro head. Aroma is roasted, chocolate, and coffee malt. Flavor is a fairly dry stout, with strong roastiness and a bit of ashy hops. The oats add a bit of body and maybe flavor. Pretty good.

(Sampler at the San Jose location) This stout is black with a tannish head. The aroma is of deep roast and chocolate malt. It has a medium body and is reasonably smooth-- not chalky like most of the other Tied House offerings. The flavor si of dark roast, perhaps raisin, but dry-- not that sweet. It’s perhaps a bit light, but it’s a nice stout. In my opinion, this is this brewery’s best offering.

Sampled at the Brewhouse in Mountain View. A nice stout. Has a dark hue with a thin lacey dark head. Mouthfeel is very smooth full of oats and barley. Flavor is packed with goodness. Worth a try if you are around the south bay.

On tap. Dark brown, almost black with a light brown head. Slightly roasted aroma. Flavor is soft, smooth and slightly roasted. Mild harmonic aftertaste. A pleasant and easy drinkable beer.

Draft at the San Jose brewery. Nitro pour. A couple minutes later, you can;t even tell. Then again, san Jose’s a little hotter than what I’m used to. This one had an honest-to-goodness nose on it, though. Roast and coffee. Yay for Tied House beers you can smell! The body’s watery for a stout, and not too awfully bubbly. The flavor doesn’t take you very far, especially for a stout, but it gives you a little love. Probably the closest TH comes to really making a step in any direction toward a flavor or a style/aesthetic choice.

Pours deep dark brown with medium light brown head. Aroma is of roasted/burnt barley. Very soft, smooth, creamy mouthfeel. I’d definitely order this one again.

Tap. Solid black with a well laced head. A nice toasted barley aroma and flavor. Bitter finish and a grainy end on a creamy body.
