On draught at the brewpub in Coral Gables, FL. Pours a hazy amber colored brew with a creamy off-white head that has some nice retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is quite citrusy. A hint of fruit and grapefruit and then a light Belgian yeast. Taste has a slight different sense with flavors of vanilla, raisin, some caramel and alcohol. Finish has a mild bitterness that lingers after the finish. Not as fruity as most other barley wines but the sharp bitterness is worth mentioning.

Bottle... Mostly clear, burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. Fantastic retention and interesting, thick lacework. The aroma offers herbal, earthy hops alongside a heavy dose of caramel and/or crystal malts. Also, a notation of grapefruit. Full-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel that gives way to abrasive carbonation. Very well-balanced... leans just a whisker on the sweet side. Medium caramel sweetness and almost-medium grapefruit pith bitterness. The finish is astringent, lightly bitter and then very dry.

Nice rich amber pour. Aroma is sweet fruity and some hops. Flavor starts wtih a quick hop bite and then you get some sweetness and fruity tones. I thoguht this was pretty good but it really doesnt compare to top notch barleywines in my book.

Pours hazy dark amber with off white head. Malty aroma. Sweet malt flavor with some hops, earthy dustiness and alcohol. Medium/full body with average carbonation. Decent.

Cloudy mahogany with very thick foamy head, looks like a Belgian ale. Fruity hopped aroma, mild through all the foam. Relatively thin, watery mouthfeel. Toasty and hoppy like a clean 2IPA. Weird bitterness at the finish like from fruit seeds. Earthy. A nice take on the style.

Amber-brown colour. Thick, rich head. Opaque. Chewy, resiny, woody hop nose with rich crystal malt earthiness. Rich, earthy palate with lots of crystal malt. Very woody, with citrusy bitterness.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy deep copper with assertive tan head and thick cobweb lacing like no other barleywine I can recall. The mild aroma has tasty grapefruit hops, pine hops, very sweet malts and semi dark fruity esters. The taste is much the same with solid pine hop flavor and bitterness followed by light dark fruity esters, sweet sweet malts and mild alcohol chemicals. It doesn’t seem to meld and come together really too well. Still tasty stuff from this hop heavy barleywine.

On tap. Cool taphandle. Nice hazy ruby pour, glistening golden. Hoppy pine notes, with faint caramel aromas. Abrupt bittering and hopped backbone. tastes more like a double ipa than a barleywine. So while not fitting the style, I still enjoyed this one. Solid overall.
