SilkTork (3941), Rochester, Kent, England Sep 5, 2003 Updated: Feb 12, 2005 Nov, 2002: Kings Head, Crystal Palace.A refreshing golden ale from this quality micro-brewery in Stoke on Trent. An amusing and appropriate name, especially as the colour is very pale - almost like ice. A glorious lemony aroma, followed by a mouthful of tantalising tangy citric fruits, a little bit like a grapefruit sorbet, quickly mellowing out into fresh water melon, finishing dry but soft and satisfying. No doubt the wheat malt softens the very bitter Galena hops, or they use Galena in combination with another hop because this wasn’t a heavy dry bitterness. A very successful summer ale which is an absolute must if you spot it in your local! [3.9]
Sept, 2003: London & Rye, Catford. At last, another chance to sample Titanic’s Iceberg. It’s been a year since my previous sample, during which time I have drunk several American Pale Ales and dozens of British Golden Summer Ales. None compare to this! It was a shocking delight first time round and remains shockingly delightful this time. I think it could be the subtle pale malt sweetness (rather than the sticky sweetness of APAs) underpinning the floral citric hops, or it could be the overall damn good quality that marks this one out as something special. Whatever it is, this is simply beautiful. [4.1]
Feb, 2005:Jolly Drayman, Gravesend. The SilkTork Consistency Award for Excellent Beer. Every time I’ve drunk this since Nov 2002 I have found this beer absolutely bloody splendid. A touch of sulphur this time round. Spanking! [4.8]
SaintMatty (519), Tallinn, Estonia Sep 5, 2008 Cask (Cayo Arms,Cardiff) - Pale golden in colour. Citric aroma with lime, tea and hints of grapefruit. More hints of tea in the taste with a dry grapefruit element. Interesting and refreshing. EFC1878 (86), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Aug 31, 2008 Cask conditioned at The Friendship, Fallowfield. Hazy pale gold colour with white head that lasted with full lacing. Malty aroma backed with a massive hit of citrus fruit. Flowery on the tongue to counterbalance the malty body. Very good palate and a lovely hoppy dryness to finish. Excellent summer beer. johndoughty (1681), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Aug 24, 2008 Bottle. Golden and poured with a medium head. Tried on a rare English summers night it went down very quickly. Some hops mixed with citrus. Refreshing, well balanced and so easy to drink. What more can you want? jbrus (4193), Delft, Netherlands Jun 18, 2008 Bottle@Home. Floral, light malty, some citrus aroma.
