duff (5402), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Apr 9, 2008 Updated: Apr 10, 2008 Cask. Nice enough. Some green apple in the aroma which fades as you work your way through the pint. palate is soft and dusty, with some nice soft apple fruit and then some roastyness (but actually not very much at all). Quite dry in the finish. wasn’t bad, but didn’t really get my attention.
Ethereal (693), London, Greater London, England Jun 27, 2008 Cask, JDW, 4th April 2008. Standard dark brown porter appearance. Aroma and flavour both boast ashy smokiness and a dark malt sweetness. Quite light in the mouth given the strength. SilkTork (3780), Rochester, Kent, England May 4, 2008 JDW, Rochester. Slight soapy chocolate flavoured beer with a medium roasty bitterness. Not impressive. Mes_and_Sim (3903), London, Greater London, England May 1, 2008 A Sim rate (cask at the Gatehouse): Sweetly nutty, caramel and delightfully porter aroma. I could sniff this all day. Translucent with a brownish red tint. It looks as good as it smells. Hazelnut initial hit like the hazelnut coffee we used to brew at CyberCafe NYC. Coffee and chocolate follows with a nicely-roasted finish. I had to get another one. Really, really enjoyed it! Fin (1993), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Apr 29, 2008 Cask at the Exchange, JDW, Banbury, Oxon 28-04-08 Dark brown with beige head, chocolate, malt and hops all gather on quite a decent aroma. Taste is more of the same, but backed up with a bit of fruitiness as well, finishes dry, really quite decent and at £1.09 a pint staggeringly good value. berkshire_john (958), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Apr 10, 2008 Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Slightly cloudy chestnut with a beige head; malty aroma with a touch of orange; dry to start, then a sherbert-like burst of sweetness; milk chocolate and dry to finish.
