Cask at Derby Festival ’08. Gold. Sweet, spicy hop aroma. Painty fruit and malt taste. A little bitterness. Ordinary. Haddonsman spoke critically of the brewery.

Cask, Far From The Madding Crowd, Oxford. Orange/copper, off-white head. Aroma starts with a nice citrus quality, but moves to a pollen/blackberry belltones. Grassy, cinnamon flavor, light caramel malt. Okay.

Bottle. Hazy golden with a small head. Aromas are pear and grapefruit with peppery woody pine and some dustiness. Flavours are sweet and fruity with resinous citrus. Floral and hoppy with a peppery pine and dry finish. Moreish.

Bottle courtesy of my dad, had this 28-06-08 Some fruit and malts combine on the aroma of this copper coloured beer. Its fruity and there’s some citrus other than that I’m struggling to find much else, though it tastes fine I suppose.

The Black Horse, Walcote. Tangy thick red gold heavy with grapefruity citrus again. Fruity and full bodied enough to approach IPA-dom. Just a splash of woody grain and some alcohol as you drain the glass. Slightly outshone by the Leeds Pale, but a tasty drop.
