Draft at the brewery. Black with a small tan head. Very roasty and alcoholic nose. Flavors are very roasted malts, a bit alcoholic, some chocolate. Palate is very smooth and drinkable, rich and foamy. Well done beer-a bit underated IMO.

On tap at Tommyknocker poured a clear dark brown nearly black with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee and light vanilla. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark chocolate, coffee and a hint of vanilla with a smooth lingering roasty finish.

Draft from La Cave du Vin in Cleveland. Pours almost black with brown head that hangs around for the ride. Full bodied and very attractive. Coffee, roasted malt, smoke, molasses. Lacks the complexity of the best stouts out there but a good, unpretentious sweet stout that goes well with any pub food.

Charlotte Octoberfest. Black pour, slight cream colored head. Roasted malt, light cocoa aromas. Some roast malt and coffee flavor throughout, a small amount of mocha/chocolate. A little chalky or "powdery" I guess. Maybe a bit confused on what they were trying to accomplish here, but overall not bad. A step above normal, but not near the top of this style.

On draft at the brewery. Black pour and a creamy tan head. Coffee aroma dominates iwth little else noted. Smooth and creamy, but somewhat lacking in body. Sweet, but not cloying, and the only bitterness present is provided by the roasted malt. Failry one dimensional, but OK to accompany the pub fare.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a brown head. Strong coffee roasted aroma. has a big lactose sweetness that overpowers any possible coffee or roasted taste. Fairly capable sweet stout. I think this is a solid example of the style.
