Pour produced a reddish-brown body with and almost non-existent head of foam. Great caramel malt aroma. Low carbonation with a full body, and a good measure of sweetness. Alcohol is well concealed thought the hops leaves a slight bitter aftertaste on the sides of the tongue. Palate is unassuming, and aside from the sweetness of the malting and it’s overall heaviness, I don’t think that this is a complex beer. Nevertheless, I think it meets it’s commercial description rather well and a certainly a beer to warm up with on a cold day or night. keepersj12 (809), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA

It looks great with a dark amber color and small head. Aroma is very nice malty sweetness. Nice little burn as it warms. swanmann (309), Norman, Oklahoma, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Pours dark brown with a slight red hue, almost no head, and the small amount that there is dissipates immediately. Aroma is weaker than I anticipated, sweet and malty as expected. Flavor is fairly one-dimensional, sweet caramel with a touch of hops. Body is smooth and pretty rich, the alcohol is well hidden, lightly carbonated. Not a bad beer, but it certainly shows how far the American craft beer industry has come since its 1997 medal. Nutty and maple syrup aroma. Flavor was not as sweet as most dopplebocks which was good for me. Sweetness of the style lingers on the palate. Decent session brew. MiP (9097), Sønderborg, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2008 Bottle at GBBF08. Rough hop aroma. Caramelly flavour, distinct hops. A little sweet, but quite alcoholic. Burns my throat a bit. machfive55 (231), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 31, 2008 Just mildly impressed with this beer. Pours a deep amber with a nice head. A mostly malty aroma. Some rich malty flavors and hints of fruity, specifically cherry. Very little hop character with this beer. Overall, an underwhelming beer but good none-the-less.
