Sweet malt, slight nuts and way too much burnt sugar. Slight notes of maple. A reasonable impressive clone of a German style but it’s all about the ingredients. The alcohol is hidden pretty bloody well I have to say. Lengthy finish with some late hoppage. It’s a bock certainly but it’s not a fantastic one. 1010 (213), Marysville, Ohio, USA

Pours a brown color with a small pale head. Has a fruity taste with a slight hoppy aftertaste. Not a bad beer, but not my favorite either. mnurda (434), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Mixed fruit sort of flavour. Almost like the fruit has gone bad. Nicely carbonated though. Not very impressive. Another disappointment from tommykcoker. BeerandBlues2 (3231), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear brown with a small, fizzy, light brown head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, cookie, nutty), light hops (herbs), average yeast (dough, leaves, earth) with notes of dates and toffee. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a sweet finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. MrBunn (1559), Western, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours the color of a slightly tarnished penny with a minimal head and aromas that are heavy with earthy and caramelly malts. Almost a smokiness to it with some fruit jam. Flavor is cloying... overly sweet maple syrup malt with little else to balance things out. Blech! oh6gdx (9104), Vasa, Finland

Aroma is maple syrup, sweet alcohol and caramel malts. Also some berries and fruits. Flavour is mainly the same in a sweet way. harrisoni (6946), Ashford, Kent, England

Having had a couple of hundred German beers, I still haven’t found many from N.America that match them. This is beautifully clear ruby, thin lasting beige head. Fruit, deep dark jammy, some red fruits, bit of syrupy malt all on the aroma. It’s a fair crack at a doppelbock. Full enough in mouth. There is some dry malt in there and some sweetish alcohol. The sweet strawberry jam flavour is rather lovely. Bit like me mam’s homemade strawberry jam. Never too syrupy. If anything quite light on the swallow. Hops on end give a tingling finish. Very impressive. jkaiser (220), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 13, 2008 Butt Head is a mouthful. Each sip is full of powerful malts, followed by a medium heavy bite of hops. No head and lite lacing. Dark mahogoney color. This is a beer for intermediate drinkers. The dopplebock is a stronger more complex lager. Carmel sweetness chocolate body. This is a session beer. Enjoy it with a steak and potatoes and asparagus tips.
