Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

I got this as part of the trail mix multipack from Tommyknocker. It pours a dark, hazy red; almost brown color with little head. The smell is of prunes and alcohol. Upon tasting, its got an alcoholy kick with some dark fruityness and subtle malt. I’m not sure I would buy this again.

Bottle at GBBF 08. Deep coppery brown with a firm malt aroma. Smooth and full bodied, this is a bit like a barley wine but not as heavy or cloying. A good strong beer.

Clear dark amber with medium off white head. Sweet aroma with caramel and toasted malt with hops to go. Sweet malty flavor with caramel and hoppy notes. Ends bitter.

Pours a caramel color with a foamy white head. Aroma of malts, chocolate and caramel. Adequately balanced taste of caramel, chocolate and malts. A bit of a hot edge.

Surprisingly interesting brew. Palate leaves something to be desired. A bit molassesy.

It pours a deep reddish brown with a head that was too embarrassed to show its face. There was an aroma of biscuit (almost potatoe) with some spice. It tastes sweet with notes of candy sugar, some malt, and a bit of a bad lager aftertaste. Very mixed-up finish; unbalanced and kind of sour.

12oz bottle served in a stem glass. Pours medium brown with a thin tan head. Smells of biscuit and apples. Sweet bready malts are overshadowed by sourness and a sharp alcohol flavor. Lingering alcohol flavor. This stuff is pretty bad.

There was virturally no head on this whatsoever, and left a minimal amount of lacing. This beer poured a brown color and featured a sweet and malty nose with hints of caramel and bread. The flavors were deep and strong with notes of bread, sweet malt and toffee. The finish and aftertaste was very sweet and malty. I can’t say this is one of the better bock beers I’ve tasted, but it isn’t the worst. It isn’t something to write home about, that’s for sure. Pretty average.
