Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

It has bite with a rich aftertaste. There is good caramel and chocolate malt flavor. This is one of the better American doppelboch LAGERS. Overall it is a tasty beer.

A bit sweet, dark amber, malty, hops are there but not pronounced. Not much of a head. Label says "DOPPELBOCK ALE", not "DOPPELBOCK LAGER".

Good malt flavor, indicitive of a bock. Caramel and toasty notes are present also. I might like to see the hop profile be a little more pronounced, just for balance. Overall, a pretty good beer.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of malts, alcohol, and caramel. Poured dark amber/copper in color with a tiny tan head that disappeared immediately. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Sweet flavor. Tastes of malts, nuts, caramel, and some toffee. No hops are discernible. Medium body. Chalky texture. Average carbonation. Dry malty finish.

Brown color......fluffy head. Light, somewhat sweet aroma. Strong caramel flavor in the front......pretty crisp mouthfeel. A bit of a complex back, with interesting fruit notes......finishes a little strong.

this was a nice diversion on a crummy rainy Sunday. Throughly enjoyed and might go back for more.

Deep amber in color with a tan head. The smell was very sweet, strong hints of the caramel I was about to taste. The caramel malt was a bit strong, almost over powering. There were other flavors in here, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what because all I could taste was the caramel. Very sweet. It was also a bit thick in the mouth, almost syrupy; but my tastebuds may have just been in shock. This was entirely too rich for my tastes; it seemed that the brewers got too involved with making it sweet and pleasing to olfactoral senses and forgot about making pleasant to taste. I won’t be buying this one again. Serving type: bottle

Darker iced tea colr without a haze. Strong and rather sweet candy aroma. A stronger beer once it hits the palate. Extinguished campfire remains and perhaps a hint of mild whiskey. A little unrefined but you may like it that way. Gets to be rather rude near the bottom of the bottle. Finish is lingering coat of cough medicine. A little too much for the taste buds of this lager lover. Of course, this does not stand up to the refined doppels I’ve had from the old country.
