Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

(USA) This brew is a dark brown color with zero head. The aroma is of caramel and rum with a smooth malty / molasses taste. You would not know there is 8.2% in this doppelbock !!! It’s very drinkable, but it might need some adjustments.

has some bite ... lacing is primo ... smell is old malt copper and wheat rust ... colour of maple syrup .. a bit thin for a doppel .. "quit bad mouthing the house" ... yikes .. needs work! ... if a brewery is going to make a doppelbock, lots of effort is required, this seemed rushed...

12 oz. bottle pours a burgundy-brown color with sparse clumps of tight, off-white head. Aroma of acetone with flowery notes. Malty front with a bitter fruit laden middle - somewhat apple pie-esque. Finish of bitter hops and burned toast and roast beef. Medium bodied. I have not been overly impressed with the Tommyknocker beers and this is no exception.

Apperance: Pours a darkened mahogany body with a small, off-white head. Smell: Sweet-smelling, toasty maltiness with distinct rummy, raisiny fruitiness. Taste: Sweet maltiness with a fair amount of toasted caramel. Medium, spicy hop character does what it can to counter the malty sweetness. Plenty of golden raisin fruitiness. Lil’ pinch from the alcohol near the overall sweetish finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. A slight syrupiness to the body, but only slightly. Drinkability: Fair enough for an American-made doppelbock. Let’s just leave it at that.

A boring and flat doppelbock. Aroma was weak. Must, stale malt and iced tea. Pour was a decent dark brown with a one finger off white head. Taste was flat and one dimensional. Caramel malt, a hint of stale hops and a thin forgettable finish. I will give this beer credit. Does not taste like it has any alcohol in it, let alone 8.2%. Barely any carbonation and an almost smokey aftertaste.

March08, Nicely brewed beer, everything is great in the looks and pour catagory, aroma and flavor is a little sharper than it’s German rivals, perhaps it is still too young, good malty flavor and balance, fine example of an American Doppel

Bottle compliments of J. Schwabb from TK brewery. Pours a burnt amber hue with a decent amount of head retention. Nose has hints of brown sugar and caramel malts. Flavor is slightly sweet with touches of molasses, there is rich malts throughout, caramel and nice finishing hop character. The abv is nicely subdued by the malts and is barely detectable. Has an extremely smooth finish, very much able to be a session beer, but be careful if you decide to go this route!
