Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

a good representation of a doppel this is typically the malty and alcohol warming brew one would expect. the brandy fruit aroma and taste is evident and well represented. the beer is slick perhaps velvety and at times gives off a very satisfying fruit character in its taste. the sweetness is genuine and quality with a nicely reigned nutty/ liquer like profile that is full and substantial. i like the muted finish in this beer that still lingers.

Brown with not much of a head. Aroma is just a faint alcohol smell. Chocolate and caramel flavors are present, along with the alcohol. Not bad overall.

Rich Aroma! Rich Taste! Malt is very well-balanced with a toasted nutty tone. Hop taste is a light and grassy delivery. The white frothy head diminshed quickly but didn’t completely disappear. Reddish Brown color with moderate weight. This is a truly delicious beer with moderate sweetness at first with a slightly bitter finish but very clean. This is a winner, especially at the price. (about 1.60 a bottle at a national liquor store)

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark burnt orange with no head. Very small amount of carbonation. Aroma is fruity with hints of caramel, apricot, and alcohol. Tasted hoppy with strong caramel hints. The aftertaste was mainly fruity with strong alcohol accents. I have not had too many doppelbocks so I don’t have a lot to base my opinion on. This was a decent brew.

12 oz bottle. Very fizzy head that didn’t last very long. Didn’t leave much carbonation behind either. Aromas were caramel and some fruity apricot. Flavors were malty caramel, some buttery chocolate, and a slightly bitter finish. Just ok.

Bottle. Pours a murky brownish orange. Aroma is sweet honey and metallic. Taste like honey with a little bit of beer in it. Too sweet for my taste.

Pours a clear deep ruby/amber color into the glass with a small white head. Aroma is of caramel and alcohol. In the flavor, I can definitely taste the alcohol, but it doesn’t annoy. Taste is of quite a bit of caremel malt with very slight hop presence. 12 oz. bottle.

poured pint glass...color of cola - all malt in smell - no discernible hop presence...very sweet - like a dopplebock should be but it seemed to lack much of a presence of anything special in the yeast to offset or complement it. Very smooth and no overwhelming alcoholic presence despite the higher abv than your average brew. Pretty tasty - definitely one worth taking a chance on at the store or favorite tap...
