Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

poured pint glass...color of cola - all malt in smell - no discernible hop presence...very sweet - like a dopplebock should be but it seemed to lack much of a presence of anything special in the yeast to offset or complement it. Very smooth and no overwhelming alcoholic presence despite the higher abv than your average brew. Pretty tasty - definitely one worth taking a chance on at the store or favorite tap...

Bottle. Dark amber, small head. Aroma is malt caramel. Flavor is mostly caramel malt and not much else. Decent, but not great. Thanks Lt. Judge!

This was the first doppelbock that I’ve tried and honestly I dont know if this is a good one to judge the style on. I didnt enjoy this one at all but I need to try some other doppelbocks to see for sure whether this one is good or not.

Bottle. Dark amber color, small head. Aroma is good with caramel up front but there are some adjuncty syrupy flavors in the background. Heavy caramel, some toffee or chocolate and some roasted malt tones. Hop bitterness a little harsh. Decent but expectedly not on par with the Germans.

Had this beer on 11/13/1998. Color is a burnt orange, carbonation is low and there is no head. Aroma is a sweet malt scent. Taste too rich and flat. It starts with a heavy body that goes down thick and rich. The finish is over powering, with a rich malt sweetness. It is a bit to rich and sweet for me. Overall it fits what the description is, but it is a little too sweet for me.

Bottle Dark mahogany pour with no head. Sweet malty aroma. Flavor follows with a small kick of alcohol, but not too much. Great brew overall.

Alcohol aroma with not much else. Brown to dark orange with some lacing. Hit of alcohol then a little malt flavor. Medium to thin body.

Bottle. Pours dark ruddy brown with minimal off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is rich and malty with hints of brown sugar. Not a bad doppel, has a dry malt character. Fairly sweet caramel and bready flavor. Some lingering bitterness, is medium bodied and fills the mouth.
