Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

Pours hazy amber, nut brown head. Lace hangs around a bit. Smells of dark fruit ( cherry? ) and a bit grassy. Taste, at first, wow. Has malt, fruit, a a bit of a sour taste. Even taste a nice shot of hop spice to it. Mouthfeel is great, finish is clean with a shot of ABV being apparent. This, and the 2007 AB Brewmasters Private Reserve are the best domestic dopples I have yet to have, with this being my favorite

Bottle: Caramely and rich. Can taste the alcohol but hidden better than most Doppels.

dissapointed in this beer. maybe one of the worse doppelbocks i have had. very thin and weak color define the appearance with small quickly fading head. this was like a doppelbock light to me, no flavor. i’m very suprised by the alcohol content. thats the up side if you bought a 6-pack, at least you get drunkk.

(Rating #1309)

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

12 oz. bottle that poured a caramel color with minimal white head. Aroma was minmal as well. Smelled faintly of caramel. Mouthfeel was moderately heavy. As with most doppelbocks I’ve had so far, this is a very sweet beer. Taste was of caramel and maybe some toffee and chocolate. Like a liquid Milky Way bar. Alcohol is well hidden. At 8.2% that could be dangerous. I detected no sign of the Hallertau hops that the commercial description speaks of. A nice sweet tasty brew.
