Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

12 ounce bottle. Shaker glass. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma was sweet and malty. Flavor was sweet malt, brown sugar and chocolate with some hops to even it out. Creamy mouthfeel with a touch of bitterness on the finish. Technically probably not one of the better dopplebock’s I’ve had, but I am a malt freak with a sweet tooth. This one was yummy as far as I’m concerned.

Pour was amber, clear, very small head, maybe off white. Nose was off, caramel with sweet-sour. Taste was like the nose, wow! feel the % right off, There was a caramel after taste. Not a bad Dopple. BIG thanks to SHP555 and mystery 2.0!!!!

Pours brown with some orange. Like all of the Tommyknocker brews I’ve had, the head is very short lived and almost non-existent. The nose is roasted malt and chocolate.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a dark brown with a slight tan head. Slightly sweet aroma, but nothing stands out. Taste is a bit malty, a little sweet, then a warming alcohol finish. Nothing too appealing about this beer other than the alcohol content. There are much better Doppelbocks out there.

Ruby pour with almost no head. Very sweet malty aroma with some burnt caramel. Flavor almost identical to aroma with a bit of nuttiness. Mouth feel could be a bit fuller.. Nicely warming. Decent brew with a kick.

Color is a luscious amber. Aroma has strong overtone of burnt caramel. Flavor is malty with smoky undertones. This is a very satisfying and drinkable bock, best sipped and enjoyed by itself so one can better appreciate its merits, rather than put away along with a meal.

Clear Mahogany pour with a small ring of whitish suds as the head. Aroma is sweet caramel malts. The flavor is true to the aroma, the malt flavor is rich in caramel, but has a distinct roasted character. The beer is medium bodied, and a little more carbonated then I like. An ok doppelbock.
