Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

12oz bottle. dark brown with a thin off-white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma, with noticible alcohol. Big malt backbone, with some hops in the finish. Smooth mouthfeel. Easy to drink despite the alcohol content.

The aroma is malts and yeast - light toasted caramel/coffee, slight chocolate with the sweet smell of dough. The body is a golden brown, the head is off white, creamy, good lacing, the head is mostly diminishing. The initial flavor is sweet and a little buttery/sour, the finish is a touch bitter and short. The body is medium, the texture is creamy with a sourness that gives the bitter. The carbonation is soft.

Pours dark burgundy with a thin, fully receding, light tan head. Aroma of wispy toffee, doughy crystal malt, and a slight papery quality. Taste is caramel, dates, and toffee, with a slightly husky (tannic?) malty quality going on. The graininess actually provides an additional focal point and keeps the sweetness from overwhelming. Mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate carbonation. Not great, but not bad either. More authentic than most US doppelbocks.

Bottle: Aroma is big on malts, chocolate, caramel, yeast, and a roasted nut aroma. Pours a clear dark red/brown color with a small sized soapy tan head. Taste is malty, the chocolate and caramel and a little subdued, and the roasted nut. Palate is bitter with an alcoholic aftertaste. Overall, It’s a decent Doppelbock just above average in my opinion.

Pours brown with a red hue. Aroma is malts, somewhat nutty. Taste is very German, bitter, with a mild warming finish. Medium body. Not great.
