Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

12 oz. Brown and clear, without much of a head. The aroma is malt and alcohol. Thick and oily, with a sweet malt flavor and a lot of alcohol in the taste. In fact, the alcohol is pretty much the dominate flavor.

A 12 oz bottle with a notching system to indicate week, month and year it was made on. The beer poured a amber orange body with a good light brown head. The smell was a roasted malt with a delicate sweetness. The taste is just like the small with a moderate mouth coating and light carbonation. Perfect for the winter.

12 oz bottle via Arctic Liquors Beer of The month club. Bottled Nov 2006 (3 mos ago). Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Nose is fruity with some strawberries, honeydew melons and candy notes. Tastes like it smells with a sweet finish, a tiny bit of roastiness and a bit of tartness as well. Moderate carbonation. Medium body.

Bottle. Nut brown color and beige foamy head. Full aroma of sweet malt and hops. A thick feel on the palate, a nice mix of hops saves this in the end, making it pleasant. This is not a guzzler. In fact, tread easy with the Butthead. Like I asked for, twice as strong as your average brew, and this ram can knock you down!

Pours a beautiful cooper red with a small tan head. Aroma is weak with just a hint of hops and carmel. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Taste is slightly sweet with nutty, carmel and brown sugar notes. Nicely carbonated. I’d recommend this beer as a stand alone as it is too sweet to wash down a burger or a brat.

Deep brown color with a small, creamy, tan head. Aroma is caramel malt and a raisiny sweetness. Flavor is malty with a brown sugar sweetness and a mild bitterness to round it out. Full bodied with a malty, alcohol finish. The best of the sampler pack so far.

12 oz single from a mix pack from The Anderson’s, Columbus, OH. Pours a pretty orange-red color with a frothy, silky, light tan head. Aroma is malty with raisin and caramel; alcohol is noticeable. Flavor similar, with sweet malt and deep fruit; touch of alcohol in the exhale; I’m not a fan of the bitter hops in this. Medium body. An unexpectedly big beer from a mix pack, and a surprisingly decent one at that.
