| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 4, 2007 Pours a reddish amber with a decent small-bead off-white head that sticks around. Not much aroma; maybe some sweet malt and hop flower. Taste makes up for the lack of aroma! Sweet malt does come through along with caramel, maple syrup, a pleasant hop bitterness, and a kind of Ovaltine taste. Pretty good effort! BeerBelcher (943), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2006 I didn’t expect much from this Doppelbock, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Appearance was quite good. There was a fair amount of white head and a clear and sparkling coffee-colored body.
Aroma was a bit lackluster, as this beer smelled only faintly of malt.
Taste was very good and true to the style (near as I understand it). Taste was full-bodied and malty, with only a wisp of hop character. I’m not a huge fan of this style, but I thought this example was very good.
Mouthfeel was pretty good, and I thought this beer pretty drinkable. kumite56 (461), Cordova, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2006 Nice beer. Malty nose with an averagae appearance. The flavor was supprisingly good however as its caramel sweet overtones were nicely comnplimented by a nice mouthfeel.
A repurchase on my list. bubbleflubber (893), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2006 Pours a muddy caramel into the glass with a trace lacy diminishing head. The nose is sweet, of toffee, molasses, raisins and caramel. The flavors follow much in tow; however, for such a bouquet, I would’ve expected much more complexity. In the end, we have a decently sweet doppelbock with a brown sugar astringent finish. The mouthfeel is slick but somehow watery, which adds to fact that I’m left missing something on the whole. I can’t quite put my finger on it, though.... maybe the body..... tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA

Rich and malty on the palate dominated by a sweet caramel flavor. The finish is sweet and malty. Nothing too great but a pleasant beer nonetheless. Delirium (498), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt, mainly caramel and brown sugar, with some nuttiness. Flavor is also sweet malt, mainly caramel and molasses, also slightly nutty, and a hint of raisins. A bit of alcohol is noticeable, though only slightly. Medium body, and slightly fizzy. The sweetness is a bit artificial and one-dimensional, but by no means is this beer unpleasant to drink. illinismitty (1797), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2006 Bottle purchased at ABC in Naples, FL. Pours translucent copper brown, with a very small off white head. Malty aroma, with hints of brown sugar and hazelnut. Flavor of caramel, raisens, and nuts. Medium spicy hop finish, with some faint alcohol sneeking through. Not too bad, but this really needs more body as this was a little thin on the palate for a Dopplebock. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2006 12 oz bottle. Coppery pour with a foamy off white head. Very sweet malty nose, caramel/toffee. Smooth even body. Sweet malty flavor, followed by a medium herbal hop bite. Alcohol is noticeable, but not overly so. Barleywine light? Kinda. Pretty good!
