| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 9, 2006 Bottle. Pours dark crimson with no head. Faint maple and malt aroma. Taste is very oxidized. Some caramel and breadiness peak through. Strong presence of ethanol. Texture is oily, medium bodied. Not much finish. esurreal (1), USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 31, 2006 I have found I really like all the Tommyknocker beers. This one is especially good. It’s very sweet at first. The malts are definitely in there. It has a slight bitter bite, but nothing close to a pale ale. It’s also very warming. I could feel it after one 12 oz bottle. The 8.2 alc. content is very much present. I like strong beers and this one is one of my favorites. radagast83 (1317), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

Pours with a hazy, hints of purple, dark, dark amber color. It is topped by a thin, frothy head that does not quite cover the beer from the get go. The aroma is entirely malt focused, which is as it should be. Sweet malt notes of caramel, toffee, figs and prunes all mix together to form a nice Doppelbock. This beer hides the alcohol quite well underneath all of the malt. There is perhaps a touch of smokiness to the aroma as well, but the aroma can basically be described as a mix of toasty malt and rich fruit character.
Certainly a chewy brew, perhaps not as thick as some, but it is rich and mouth coating. The beer is not quite as sweet as I was expecting, but there is a ton of malt character here. The malt almost has a rich meaty quality to it. Tons of toasted malt character is here and it is rounded out by some caramalized grain notes and just a hint of roasted grain character in the finish. There is only a touch of the fruit notes that were found in the aroma; hints of figs and some raisins are all I get if I search. Mostly this is a giant malt bomb, with perhaps a touch of alcohol in the finish. This beer is rich and chewy, and quite a good example of a Doppelbock. jeffc666 (1898), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

The aroma is sweet and sugary, caramel even some cherry notes. The flavor is also sweet but actually fairly enjoyable. Quite hoppy for the style so in a sense it is a bad dopplebock, but it is in the end a half way decent beer. cbkschubert (2027), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Light initial off white head that fades to a film quickly. Has a light roasted malt aroma. Flavor is a sweet and malty. Hard to tell its a lager. Medium body. Worth a try.
