Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

Bottle. Sweet aroma of molasses, brown sugar, chocolate, dessert like. Dark redc body with an average head which remains like a ring around the glass and almost completely disappears in the center. Yummy flavor. Thorough mouthfeel and there is plenty of flavor here. This would be my favorite Tommyknocker to date (I still have a few more to rate from the variety pack I purchased). Definitely leans heavily on the malty side but is satisfying nonetheless for this hop head.

Bottle: Pours a nice cherry ruby color with thin head and a light ring of lacing. The nose is very nice with some floral cherry and jasmine notes, some bright hoppy sweet fruit along with the biscuity, toffee and brown sugar notes. Moderate alcohol accents all of this but doesn’t overwhelm. The light bitterness also talks up the rest of the beer, it’s a very rich and tasty beer that’s near a barleywine in flavors but without all that alcohol and bitterness that tears apart your palate. The fruity cherry notes to this beer are certainly unique. Finishes clean and balanced. I really liked this one.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark amber under a quickly fading off-white head. Aroma is sweet and syrupy with lots of toffee and brown sugar. Very malty with a light alcohol note. Flavor is overly sweet with lots of caramel and alcohol. Finish is warming with more sweet maltiness. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a syrupy texture and low carbonation. Overall, I thought that this was well done, tons of malt with noticable but not over-the-top alcohol. This is worth seeking out.

A great beer for the cooler days of fall. A vivid assorment of caramel, mild dark fruit and cocao gives this a unique malty expierence. Body feels a little thick which is good.

Not a bad Doppelbock. Like your typical Double it pours dark brown with a small white head. A light coffee caramel taste and aroma.

Deep ruby body with a small off-white head. The aroma is toffee, sweet cherries, vinous, slightly tart. The flavor is sweet with a touch of tartness, vinous, cherries caramel. Lacking in bitterness. The mouthfeel is soft and silky. Many nice qualities, but unfortunately unbalanced.

This was the highlight of the City Pages beer fest for me. Thick and chewy, filled with tons of chocolate and caramel giving it a very sweet, but well balanced taste. Hides its alcohol very well.

Tommyknocker butthead lager Nice ruddy brown pour with a decent grayish head that settles to a film. Aroma of wet east Texas clay, plums, and caramel. Maple syrup flavor smacked me upside the head first, and then the floral alcohol bite came next. A bready flavor comes out in this too, like buttered rolls. This is very sweet, a bit overly so. Finish is raisin and maple with a wallop of alcohol Ap-4 ar-6 tas-6 pal-2 ov-13
