Caramel, light sour aroma and a sweet caramel malty, light sour taste. Medium body with a sweet light sour finish. Bought in FL. 1 Month ago, should not be off, but may be. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 5, 2006 Bottle. Pours a deep amber with no head and not much carbonation to speak of. Scents of malt and caramel. Thick, creamy and viscous as it goes down, syrupy sweet. Not bad, but a little too sweet for my taste and I like sweetness. Thanks to Snowtiger for the bottle. yayforbeer (648), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2006 Dark amber beer with an off white head. A vague, malty aroma. Flavor was candy sweet, with some bitterness and alcohol burn. If this were even half as good as Celebrator it would still be very good, but its not. The flavor is artificial tasting and a little weird. Nice full body and mouthfeel, and the high alcohol actually helps keep the flavor from being too bad. It was somewhere in the second beer that I finally detected some dopplebock flavor. The Pick Axe ale was a better choice. Given the childish brewery name and label, this was just another “me too” offering from a “me too” brewery. I’m a fan of quality dopplebocks, but not this. $7.99 for a six pack at Broudy’s, Orange Park, FL. nick76 (2684), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 2, 2006 The aroma is pretty good; it has caramel, oak, fruit, and yeast. The appearance is a clear red brown with a medium head. The flavor is both good and bad. On the positive side there is caramel, toffee, chocolate, and spice but, it also has a paper taste that kills it. The bitterness and alcohol are assertive but unpleasant. Despite having many of the same qualities as a Porter it tastes nothing like one. The aftertaste has wood and salt in it and is not to my liking. It should probably rank lower but the few good qualities that it has are very good. Fish (439), Kure, Japan
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2006 This stuff was pretty damn good. Definitely a strong alcoholic kick. Very dark, fairly minimal head, but on the heavy side carbonation-wise. I think only my second Dopplebock next to Celebrator. This beer-is a little bit one-dimensional compared to the complexity of the celebrator tho. waolsen (1224), Littleton, Colorado, USA

We had to pull over and watch the end. No other reason to stop in Idaho Springs. Tommy Knockers seemed like a good place. Pretty cool bar. However this is a terrible bock. Very bland for a bock.
